Your opinions on pedals picking up noise?

Just wondering what your experiences are, last band practise I had my DIY Klon clone and modded TS-9 on my board to boost my amp for some heavy stuff.
I liked both a lot, but the Klon(e) picked up a lot more noise than the Ts-9 which was quiet. Is this the difference between a true bypass (klone) and buffered pedal(ts-9)??

What kind of noise? My old Pinnacle picked up a radio broadcast once. Never happened to any other of my pedals.

Sounds like noise from the electricity. And yes the sockets we plug in to are all grounded. The Klon(e) happpens to be the only ' true bypass' pedal on my board too, so I think thats what causing it.
But the radio thing happened to me on the Ts-9 once too, its quiet now tho.

Picking up 60 cycle hum or radio broadcasts is usually the result of a ground loop or poorly shielded cable.

I'd try isolating and also swapping cables.

I had an interesting problem the other day, where I would get bad hum out of an EHX small stone chorus ONLY if it was plugged into my tube screamer. I wondered if it had something to do with the tube screamer's buffer. It was the only pedal I had that would do that, and it had other issues too so I sold it as "broken/for parts" on ebay. Kind of a meh chorus imho anyway.

Is the signal path gtr->klon->ts9 or gtr->ts9->klon ?

Hmm, TS-9 designed by an electrical engineer was quiet and a Klone reversed off a schematic online was noisy? Can't imagine why... :scratchch PCB layouts are an art and a science.

The Klone was also engineered at some point? I highly doubt there's a difference in circuit large enough to make up for much more noise than it does. I made sure I used premium parts just like the boutique guys do. Just because its not on a magical pcb board shouldnt make it more noisy. Perhaps you know a way how to troubleshoot the pedal? Troubleshooting is probably an art too ;)

The chain order is Guitar -> TU-2 -> Wah -> TS-9 -> Klone -> Line 6 M5 -> amp. I'll try to swap some cables and pedals around thx for suggestions!

If you are still having issues with your pedal and you can't figure out how to fix it, you could always send it to me. I have a thread going in the trading post for guitar effect pedal and solid state amp repair. Send me a PM if you have questions or would like me to look at it. I could always help you troubleshoot it too.

Re: Your opinions on pedals picking up noise?

Have you been able to duplicate (or even approximate) the noise in another setting where the Klone was noisy but the TS9 was quiet?

They can also be caused by not having something grounded that should be.

Re: Your opinions on pedals picking up noise?

Could you post pictures of the circuit of your pedal so we can help troubleshoot it?
