Post your Opinions/Reviews on your Digital Effect Pedals, MultiFX / Digital Single effect pedal.

Are they any good ? have you already completely switched to Analog Pedals.

Re: Your Opinions/Reviews on your Digital effect Pedals

The Digitech CF-7 chorus factory is pure awesome. Most are not EXACTLY the same as the boxes they are modeled on, but they are so close IMO it doesn't matter.

Also - more control than any of the originals which is also awesome.

Honestly, there is about every chorus sound in there you could ever want - and it's all fantastic.

Re: Your Opinions/Reviews on your Digital effect Pedals

I tried a Echopark recently and it came dangerously close to make me regret buying my Memory Toy.

I mean, it sounds really good, probably just as good as the EHX pedal, but it's so much more versatile. It's great.

Re: Your Opinions/Reviews on your Digital effect Pedals

Ace, you ever tried the Digitech Distortion Factory?
That one caught my eye and it could be useful for me.

Re: Your Opinions/Reviews on your Digital effect Pedals

I use a digital delay (Eventide TimeFactor). I like analogue delays for their ambient swampiness... but they typically lack clarity when it comes live/high gain use and they typically don't function well when used in an effects loop.

Re: Your Opinions/Reviews on your Digital effect Pedals

Analog is great, the tone is great, and I used to run a huge pedalboard full of analogous goodness. I switched to a Gmajor 2 rack setup and, while I can't say I havent looked back at all, I'm looking back less than I thought I would. Been running the Gmajor2 since a month after it came out. I dig it, but they haven't delivered on some of their promises such as sharing presets over the internet with other users. There's a Gmajor2 forum but its kind of sparse. Took them a few months after launch to even have a software tool to edit and save presets, and even that's kinda wonky. In a game dominated (and dominated well) by Line 6, I expected a little something extra in that regard. Plus, I had to get a special Midi to USB cable to connect versus how line 6 has a USB connection to connect to computers on most of their stuff.

That being said, the effects and for the most part, spot on. The Vibrato is great and I can get some awesome warbly Floyd-ish "Breathe" sounds as well as bridge of sighs tones. Choruses are great, the vintage phaser is a dead ringer for a block logo phase 90. The flanger is garbage... still can't get a good throaty "unchained" or "killing in the name of" sound out of it, its just not in there which baffles my brain to no end why that sound isn;t in there. Delays are great, reverbs great, the ability to change my preamp's channels is awesome as well. Whammy and harmonizing / pitch effects are acceptable for what it is. Whats cool is that I can add delay and then put modulation on the repeats only and roll off the high frequencies of the repeats as well. I've put together a DAMN good simulation of my EP-3 echoplex in there... and a LOT LESS NOISE too.

If you have a rack setup already, as I do, it was the smart decision for me to make. I run my midi controller in preset mode, and with one button I can go from clean with slight compression to full gain with longer delay and a harmonizer. does it excel at all of them? No. But that pedal dancing gets old FAST. Especially after a few shots and in the last few songs of the night... the longest part of the night is 1AM to last call.

No I have not - but I have heard very good word on it also.

If your goal is exact "cloning" of a giv en pedal, it is probably a fail. But again - I have heard they are all very very close (or at least pretty much in the ball park) and again - lot's of flexibility in eq, gain, etc...

If you can't find a good dirt sound in that - it's probably you, not the pedal.

Re: Your Opinions/Reviews on your Digital effect Pedals

I have a CMATMODS "Deeelay" pedal that is digital, and I love it. And an old Boss Digital Dimension (DC-3) pedal that has a huge spacious chorus sound. I prefer my Dimension C (DC-2) which is analog, but if I didn't have that I'd be pretty happy with the DC-3.

Re: Your Opinions/Reviews on your Digital effect Pedals

I've decided to be done with it, in the realm of guitar....not studio.

I doubt I'd go back to rack gear, after creating an all analog pedalboard. It sounds much richer to my ears.

Re: Your Opinions/Reviews on your Digital effect Pedals

imo, nothing beat a digital pedal for long delays. I'm using t-rex replica and I couldn't be happier.

Re: Your Opinions/Reviews on your Digital effect Pedals

The TC electronics Nova System sounds pretty dam good, no more patch cables to worry about and the EQ will give your amp the best sound your amp could ever do.

No! Don't make me also almost regret my purchase! I just bought the EHX Memory Toy as well, waiting to receive it. Why can't packages be instantaneously delivered?! WHY?!?!

Re: Your Opinions/Reviews on your Digital effect Pedals

I use an Eventide Timefactor and couldn't be happier with how it sounds... On my mini-board I have an Echo Park (great for grab-and-go) and a Verbzilla.... These are probably my favorite Line 6 products that I've tried. The Reverb from the Verbzilla is second only to real springs IMO... It does great subtle reverb, to really cool spacey reverbs.

Re: Your Opinions/Reviews on your Digital effect Pedals

When it comes to Digital Distortion pedals / modelling pedals, they sometimes can get a close enough sound to the original analog pedals or amps, but the FEEL and Dynamics are kinda different specially when playing Live,

Line 6 HD Pod claimed they captured the Feel of the real thing, but havent tried that yet :)

I like the SD Deja Vu . . . it's a good digital delay with analog 'colour' circuitry, it sounds great. The Empress Tremolo that I have is able to get tons of temolo sounds and variations very easily and operates without any noise or change in your guitar tone.

Don't worry, the Memory Toy is badass. It also looks cool. :D

Off-Topic warning:

One cool thing about the Toy is the trim pots inside the pedal.
My Memory Toy had the modulation going way too fast and seasick.
Yours might have that out of the box, check the mod switch ASAP.
Apparently the modulation speed is all over the place on these pedals, some come OK and some come at ridiculous speed.

There's a pot inside the pedal called "Mod depth".
Adjusted it with a flat screwdriver, and now it's a subtle chorus/vibrato.
You definitely want to remember how it was set out of the box, and for God's sake DON'T TOUCH THE OTHER POTS.
There's 7 or 8 of them inside, and they could ruin your pedal if you're not careful.
I didn't bother with them.

Enjoy the pedal, it's awesome! :)

Re: Your Opinions/Reviews on your Digital effect Pedals

The only digital pedals I use are delays and a Whammy on occasion. I prefer the Dan-Echo over my DD-3 for lead delays because I can roll of a little top end to make the effect more analog-esque. The DD-3 is better at the subtle delays I like on rhythm parts
