Your suggestion for 4th mod for an Les Paul pro

We're working on a mid 70s lp pro that will be the primary Les Paul in a studio that caters to rock, pop and country clients.

They are looking for 1 great guitar to cover as much ground as possible and we're working with 2 great pickups... A dark warm 70s p90 in the neck and we're installing an aph-1 in the bridge.

They want as much variety as possible with 4 pull pots and we'll likely recommend series, out of phase and running the aph-1 paralelle...

But what about the 4th push pull?

It's a very neutral or slightly bright lp and metal users are unlikely so it doesn't need bass roll off.

Half out of phase would normally be a useful lp mod, but i have never tried it with a single coil + humbucker.

It could get to complex if we already have the paralelle option, but I like the half shunted coil option for many bridge buckers. Again, not sure if these 2 options are really compatible.

So there's the background... What would you suggest for the 4th push pull?

Could you just use 2 Triple Shot rings? It would be a more elegant way to do this, unless you do a spin-a-split somewhere,

Hmm, triple shots could make some if switching easier, but would series out if phase be possible? With this config, we just open up 3 more push pulls for mods;)

But seriously, they asked for push pulls so I might mention trippleshot but need to focus more on 4 push pulls.

Spare push pull, eh? What about running the cap wires to it and having push pull for 50s vs Modern wiring?

Wow, never thought of 50s on a pot...good one.

And partial split is on the list, but unsure how it would coexist with parallel... Will diagram some tonight...

Great input!

Hi Zionatrat'

I played around with a Greg Bennett Samick LTD edition a few years back. Very nice guitar with beautiful maple top and ebony fret board. Guitar came stock with DDs 101 s but owner was after a certain sound. Finished putting in a genuine Gibson P90 in the neck and a Custom Custom in the bridge..both second hand. Tried various different wiring ideas over a several months .Eventually simplified down to the following. PP to put bridge in parallel. PP to cut Bridge to inner coil (only works when parallel PP is engaged..otherwise does nought) PP to give combined OOPs/Series and 4th PP to disconnect tone controls from circuit (no load) . Don't know if this helps or gives you any further ideas.

As regards your interest with partial out of phase..I did some research on this a while back and came up with an idea of overcoming the problems which arise when you try to combine part out of phase with series. Its dealt with in this post which you may find of interest.
