ok you asked about a 20-30 band EQ for a amp ..NO
However a 7 band EQ pedal (or maybe a 10 band rackmount )is perfect for guitar ,anything more is overkill and meant for sound reinforcement anyway.
With a pedal it can be used for a solo boost...or to fatten up your amp, like some have said the key is to be SUBTLE .like with Distortion and bass many times you will find Less is More
the boss pedal is nice,I let my bass player use it and never got it back,I now use a $25 danelectro EQ pedal that works just as good and is dead quiet.
