Re: Your top 5 amplifiers!

i don't get the whole vintage thing, innovation didn't die in the 60's

my 5
fender supersonic
mesa mark IIc+
hiwatt custom 50
fender twin RI (never played an original)
Marshall 18 watt TMB clone (ceriatone.com)

It's not about innovation, I'll agree that for some guys a channel switching midi programmable amp with a big footswitch is the way to go, but if you just crank your amp and use the volume on your guitar for clean and dirty and/or use pedals an old one channel amp is the way to go. I mean if you want the purest tone you can get you don't plug into something with half a gameboy inside, you go with direct signal path

Re: Your top 5 amplifiers!

i dont mean the mesa mark 5 style, i was thinking some modern 1 channels are really good, blues deluxe, night train, jcm800, and some high gain modern amps, the whole 5 channels 41 knobs eleven gazillion switches with automatic toaster isn't the right way either, the bes are 1 and 2 channel amps that are simple, one of my favorites was a custom from the ax84 building blocks that had 2 channel clean and lead, and had a 20 watt pp power amp, it was tonal nirvana, no channel monster will ever achive that (but the supersonic is close)

Re: Your top 5 amplifiers!

M/B Mark IIC+
M/B Mark III
JCM800 w/KT88
Peavey Butcher
Some VHT with 6550's and the EQ on the front (pittbull maybe?)

Re: Your top 5 amplifiers!

Marshall TSL
Mesa/Boogie Mark V
Marshall 800 (silver jubilee, please)
Mesa/Boogie Road King II
Mesa Boogie Stiletto Duece

Re: Your top 5 amplifiers!

My collection of amps is really good. I have some nice ones, but when you speak of wanting here is a list that I think any Pro would want.

1. Fender Twin (Blackface) 80W of clean power and takes pedals extremely well.

2. Fender Deluxe Reverb (Blackface) No real pedals needed here. Great for recording

3. Marshall 50W Plexi (VERY LOUD) but pure tonal Bliss

4. VOX AC30

These 4 are all truly great amps. I could see the Twin replace with a Super Reverb due to volume control.

My current collection is:

Fender Super Reverb (Silver)

Fender Deluxe Reverb (Silver)

Marshall 900 50W 2 12" combo ( I gigged a lot with this)

Bogner Shiva 80W EL34 1 12" combo

Komet 60 connected to a Marshall 1960 AX with greenbacks

Though I get what you are saying, each pedal you uses a load of electronics which then go into your signal path. Wouldn't it be better to just use another channel on your amp than a tubescreamer??

Fender 5e3 (own one)
Silvertone 1481 (own one)
Bogner Uberschall

Re: Your top 5 amplifiers!

Mesa Boogie Mark IV ...OWN!!!
Epiphone Valve Junior combo ...Own for practice and fun
Mesa Boogie Rectoverb ...Sold, enjoy Dad
Peavey Classic 30 ...Sold, enjoy Dad's friend
Peavey Ultra 410 ...Reclaimed by Satan himself in a fire from Hell!!

Top 3 would have been better for me though, I've only owned 5 all tube amps!! And yes to me, only tubes matter.

... Although the Peavey Windsor with a 4x12 at my house would rank in the list, but I don't own it. Talk about bang for buck?!!

I know it was meant in jest but some of those early Park (Marshall) SS amps circa 1993 or so actually had a pretty decent crunch tone- very "lizzy".

I'd like to replace the Fender(s) in my original post with the folowing- I'm GAS'ing hard for this beeatch.

Re: Your top 5 amplifiers!

First of all, to limit someone to 5 amps is pretty sadistic. if i must chosse 5 however, it'd be these;

1) Fender tweed Bassman 4x10 ( x2)

2) Fender Blackface Super Reverb

3) Sunn Model T

4) Marshall JCM/ JMP

5) Original Mesa Boogie MKI cane / wood

Dmmit, you didn't even give me a Marshall Hot Rod , but I'll say the Soldano SLO as honoable mention.

Man, I could reel off five more amps I'd love to have pretty easily.
