"You've got to Change" new song written on guitar.

I don't write many songs on guitar but I was fooling around with a capo and came up with this little ditty. I used Guitar Rig 3 and a Dean Markley with two single coils and one humbucker, vocals through my $37.00 mic which is quickly earning a place in my favorites category (not) and Addictive Drums.

Hope you like it. :)

You've Got to Change

Re: "You've got to Change" new song written on guitar.

You made that little 38 dollar mic sound pretty great! You have a great voice. I really like the clean tone you got out of guitar rig -- never liked that program myself, but this is a great tone. I really appreciated all the textures. Very cool song.

Edit: is that guitar rig on distant side of things too? Sounds great even on the myspace player. You've got a less cheesy tears for fears type vibe goin. I dig it!

Thanks AmirH for the comments and checking out the tunes, I appreciate it. :)

Guitar Rig pretty much sucks no doubt. I used two different amp patches for the clean track and did a lot of eqing to get it to sound half way decent. Yep, that's guitar rig 3 on Distant Side of You too.

It's really hard to get good sounds out of that program and its really heavy on the computer. I just listened to the Waves GTR3 demos yesterday, they sound pretty good. I'm going back to a hardware sim when I get some cash.

I love it! The song has a really cool and eerie vibe and there aren't too many songs I can think of that do that well - great job! I've noticed that you really like to use reverb on your stuff, but it always comes off as tasteful. The guitars came off really well in the mix, I never would have guessed you had difficulties with it.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I tend to use more reverb when things are all direct recordings e.g. Guitar Rig and Addictive drums because I want to hear a sense of space. It's hard to get a feel of guys in a room when you record like that. I must have tried about 6 different amp sims from GR for the main rhythm part, the other guitars were not that difficult.

I really liked it (Mix II).

The mixing on the whole thing, and the clean (compressed to perfection?) vocals were present but not too present.

I was also impressed with how you mixed the drum track in a way that it's artificiality wasn't evident.

Great work!

Thanks I6, I appreciate the words and the time to listen. I'm too close to it at this point to be objective.

This is a very cool tune....really has a haunting vibe to it. You did a great job on the production. Sounds great through my Mac Book Pro speakers.

Thanks Frank for checking it out and the compliment, I appreciate it. Good to hear it sounds good on little speakers, I get lazy and don't always check my mixes on such small speakers.

Re: "You've got to Change" new song written on guitar.

I like it. The voice needs some more control maybe, since it pitches out on 2-3 points, But I am sure you get that right :)
The guitar sounds good on this track. The song is radio worthy !

sounds really good, I was impressed with the vocals and textures...I noticed the vocals are heavily compressed with that mic - good luck, I think it sounds really cool though

the high notes at the very end for singing - just hold them for longer so they sound more in tune

VERY AWESOME!!!

Re: "You've got to Change" new song written on guitar.

You're really nailing an 80's feel there! It's not my type of music (as you know!) but I always appreciate your professional approach to things, sounds really classy.
This particular song reminds me a lot of Simple Minds "Dont You Forget About Me" (I think that's the name of the song, it's the chorus anyway), but that may just be because I'm not overly familiar with this genre.

As a small aside, some guy emailed me asking if I'd like to work with him on music like this even though my profile says I'm into death metal. What he imagined I'd bring to music like this I have no idea....

Re: "You've got to Change" new song written on guitar.

Thanks guys!

Diocletian - that was the name of the SM song I'm pretty sure. I don't know what genre it is? I guess there is 80's in there but to my ears the 80's were a lot cheesier. LOL For the record I never wore a pirate shirt...welll maybe once, but no platforms!

Just lay some metal guitars on the guys ****! I'm sure it will work. :)

Everdrone - thanks for the tips man! I didn't want to over correct the pitch on the vocals which I have done in the past - it kills it imo when vocals are too perfect.

Dude, that has a similar feel to the band VAST, the self titled album. And that is awesome. I loved that album. Brings back memories from high school, an old relationship, and good things.
