zakk wylde signature strings....

i´ve just seen his signature strings....is....is that man human?

at first i though...well, the way he tunes his guitars (ebgDAB...i want to tune my explorer like that also)...he needs a "fat" 6th string...but, that 5th is a 52; 4th is a 36...

A little oversized strings to be tuned as standard tunning, aren´t them?
has anyone tried them?

if not...do you think is a better option to put in the axe a standard 7 strings set without the 6th??

Zakk Wylde
GBZW 010 013 017 DY36 DY52 DY60

GHS 7 without the 6th

Re: zakk wylde signature strings....

i have used his sig set for standard tuning, it works fine and they sound great, plus i LOVE thicker strings for standard tuning, just seems to sound better.

Oh and if you use them get your guitar setup RIGHT for thick strings.

Re: zakk wylde signature strings....

i use 10's
daddario 10-46 set. it sounds great.

tunings on zakk's guitars go as low as C (or just drop C) so he E string has to be thick. at least 52 so it's not flappy (46's work ok with D tuning, but C is another gauge lower. 46's are quite flappy then and with a heavy left hand you'll bend them out of tune like i do LOL)

try using a 13-56 (orhtereabouts) set on a acoustic.. those will slice your fingers

do you mean standard ebgDAE??

but...aren´t they supposed to be made for ebgDAB tunning?

Re: zakk wylde signature strings....

I now use 12-54 in my SG in standard E. No problem with them, I like the response in them. On the whole I have mixed feelings about them. I don't like the sound, but I like the touch.

Re: zakk wylde signature strings....

A friend of mine would ONLY use those strings I never used them because I am happy with my GHS Boomer 10s untill I find something I dislike about him. I also do not really like my strings that thick. Is that the same gauge he has on his Epi sig guitar? When I tried the guitar it had super thick strings :(

i love zakk´s tunning on songs like the beginning...at last, stronger than death
, Low down, 13 years of grief, etc...thats ebgDAB tunning, and thats how i want to tune my axe...(he is using drop C on songs like demise of sanity, graveyard disciples to name a few)

so 13s is way too much to tune 1st string to e...i think that just standard gauges like 10s would work from 1st string to 5th. but the 6th has to be a 60...

so my question is...zakk´s signature gauge, that is standard from 1st to 3rd, but is way too much thicker from 4th to 6th...should work on that tunning?

Re: zakk wylde signature strings....

Yes.

I didn't know about the Zakk Wilde signature set till I read this thread. But I have been buying two sets of strings at a time to make almost that set... and tuning to what war head is asking about.

But takes a good setup and intonation to get it working.

Re: zakk wylde signature strings....

I've heard somethings about it in his "video-lesson" "Pentatonic Hardcore"... he was teaching the chicken pick. See u later mates.

Re: zakk wylde signature strings....

GHS has a tendency to make the 5th & 6th strings too close (like 48/56, 44/52, or 52/60) in their heavier sets. The 11 Zakk set makes more sense (11,14,18,36,52,70).

I've used a 13 set for standard. If you can get any string to a pitch, it's ok for it :D

I can't stand anything lighter than 11 for any tuning. Currently, I tune down a whole step, then drop the d to c (cgcfad) and use Ernie Ball Beefy Slinky. 11,15,22(plain),30,42,54 and it's perfect for it (for me). That plain 22 took some getting used to, though :)

The ZW set (10-60) is for standard. The ZWLO (11-70) is for drop B.

I prefer 11's, so I use the I use the ZWLO for standard, except I replace the 70 with a 60 (11-14-18-36-52-60). They work just fine, and aren't that hard to bend once your finger strenth is up.

Re: zakk wylde signature strings....

i've never used the regular ZW set but i have two fat strats set up with the ZW-Low set which is 11 14 18 36 52 70 these are both tuned to drop C and the sound KILLER with these strings! the highest i can tune them is to D, anything more and i think the neck will just snap in half due to that 70 hahaha j/k

Re: zakk wylde signature strings....

I don't think it's necessary to have bottom strings that thick. Zakk Wylde may be an amazing player but that's just ridiculous! I would have a really hard time bending those.

Some guys like 9-42. Some like really heavy. The really thick wound strings aren't as hard to bend as you'd think. Because they're so thick, there is a lot of string to grab onto. They're great for squeals, too :D

counterfeit god is GADgbe....thats so damn low....

Re: zakk wylde signature strings....

i use a .52 for the low e string. it works fine for me, and even in drop c it works fine as well. im pretty happy with my strings right now, i use ernieball skinny top and heavy bottoms. only my top strings are alot lighter than what zakk uses, i wouldnt be able to bend my strings if i had thicker top strings anyways, so i see it as best of both worlds. Heavy bottom for those distorted chunky power chords, and light top for solos, works well for me :)

:eek2::eek2::eek2:i see, i see... this is weird dudes :laugh2:, i don´t think i´ll be able to play with that ones.

i´ve always played with 10-46 kinda gauges...maybe 11-49s to play in Eb...it´s a radical change

btw why does GSH change these gauges if there is only a diferent note? do you know what i mean?

Re: zakk wylde signature strings....

Unless you have really weak fingers, heavy strings aren't a big deal. You can get used to just about anything if you give it time. It's like lifting weights.

Re: zakk wylde signature strings....

I use a custom set of Ernie Balls that are basically like that Zakk Wylde set.

60,52,36,17,11,09

Mine are very heavy on the bottom and very light on the top.
I have found that the thicker strings vibrate a lot more than the lighter gauge strings, so you need thicker strings on the bottom to get a better tone, IMO.
The top strings don't really matter how light or heavy you have them, they vibrate the same.
I say, why the hell sound you have a thick ass high e string?
It does not feel that good. it's going to sound the same as a light one.
But that's just what works for me.

I've been using this set for about three or four years now and I don't think i'll ever change it.

Oh, yea, I play in standard tunning--a=440--on an SG
I'm not really into the down-tunning thing.

Rock.
