Re: Zakk Wylde's combo

Good luck with the new pups.

Re: Zakk Wylde's combo

I think 81 - 81 would've been better but that's just me.

My friend has that in his ESP EXP and he says it's amazing through his triple-rec, I haven't heard that combo, but in the ESP M1000 it sounds amazing...

Umm, my 81 bridge pleases me enough.

Re: Zakk Wylde's combo

Awesome man! Let us know how it is! What amp will you be playing it through?

I urge you to put that 85 in the bridge, though. It'll be easy to swap on your own during a string change.

In all honesty, I'd like to wait and see how they sound before jumping to conclusions.

Then again, I'm not a fan of the JB or Jazz, anyways.

I'm with ya on this, but I'll take a chance on the bridge, if it's available by itself.

However, a hot JB/Jazz set is in no way comparable to an EMG 81/85. Worlds apart tonally speaking, and if the Mustaine set is anything like the other Livewires, there really won't be any commonalities.

Evan already said it will only be available as a set, but maybe you can custom order yourself one.

Blah. Nevermind on that, then. I'm not gonna pay extra to just get a bridge pickup.

DSS, what's your favorite N/B combo? DO you like the 85/60?

Never tried the 60 in the neck.

So far, my favorite pickups are the 707 in the bridge and neck, and the Invader in the bridge. Both on 7 strings; I don't play 6's anymore.

Re: Zakk Wylde's combo

Ok, today i've got my guitar back with the EMGS

Great hard rock sounds at a medium gain, and pure metal attack and easy soloing for legatto playing at high gain... but that's always the same tone...
Anyway, i hadn't the chance to play in really high volumes or a good tube amplifier, because at home i've got an old Marshall VS100.
I Think I'll get more money and buy a good set of duncans to put on my Gibson Explorer, i think a good mahogany piece of wood don't need EMG's, unless you play extreme metal... a thing that i used to do maybe 2 years ago..
The EMG's I will put on my Charvel strat 375 H S H, and keep the Gibson with passive humbuckers
Am I right?
By the way.. I don't know yet what to use on Gibson.. I've got a Dimarzio super distortion, but i would like to try a duncan. From classic blues rock (Cream, Humble Pie Skynyrd, Blackfoot, Allman Brothers, AC/DC, Zeppelin) to some hard rock things (Whitesnake, Van Halen Thin Lizzy, Old Def Leppard, Quiet Riot and Randy's stuff)

Thanks again guys

C5/59 or CC/A2P.

I dislike EMGs though SS amps. Too much cleanliness there... Try them through a ripping Marshall, Mesa or Peavey (5150, XXX, JSX)

Re: Zakk Wylde's combo

I agree
The EMGs thru tibes - yum!

I think the EMG's are cool - not my taste these days, but you can't go wrong with them overall. Esp for effects laden tones and/or metal

Re: Zakk Wylde's combo

I wouldn't use the 85 in the neck personally...ever notice how Zakks neck tone sucks??

The 60 is actually my favorite neck pickup among both actives and passives....just has so much character for cleans and semi-clean tones.

Are you going to paint a bullseye on it? :laugh2:

J/K. I just got a set of live wires, but I'd still like to try out that EMG set sometime. One day I'll have the right axe for it.

Re: Zakk Wylde's combo

oh no! I don't think an Explorer would be nice with bullseye! But they give you a nice pick signed by Zakk... nice gift!

I think next week i'll take off those EMGs, my guitar sounds like everything but a Gibson Explorer:yell:
By the way, they are great pickups for stuff like 80's hard rock and metal, fast like hell for the solos, would suit nice on my Charvel strat

Re: Zakk Wylde's combo

I always thought the 85 was WAY to powerful for the neck in that set.
