Zebra Pickups on an Alpine White LP?

I'd like to hear your opinion on this. Should I put my Zebra Pups (SD Custom and A2P) into my Alpine White LP Custom (Orville by Gibson)?

The stock pickups are Gold Covered Gibson USA pups, but are more suited to classic rock and hard rock. I feel it doesn't have enough "power".

My duncans are currently in my trans black Epi Quilt top, and I'm thinking of a pickup swap.

Notice I just used a Gibson LP and rotated the bridge pup in photoshop.

Thanks!

The Gold pups are one of (if not) the defining parts to the Alpine Custom. Don't do it! It won't look right.

Sell your Zebras, and buy Gold covered SD pups.

Re: Zebra Pickups on an Alpine White LP?

Here's my thinking: everything on the guitar is gold, white and black. Black pups wouldn't look too bad. Pure white pups wouldn't look too bad. But the cream does not mix with the white, at all. Now, obviously gold would look best. The zebras would not look that bad, and they'd obviously sound great (which is what matters most). But for me, looks are 49% and sound is 51%. I'd put Gold in definitely, and I'd keep the Gibby's in until either I could swap them out with Gold SDs. Also, if you put your zebras in, you'll have to find something to put in your Epi.

Just my $.02!

i love zebra pups but the cream and white may or may not work. it doesnt look too bad in the pic, but it could go either way in real life

Re: Zebra Pickups on an Alpine White LP?

I have a 78 white LP Custom zebras might look good in, but mine is so yellowed that it would match the creme of the zebra. So, I say gold covered or all black.............

Re: Zebra Pickups on an Alpine White LP?

I hate white pickups in my white Les Paul Custom and it looked waay cool. I'd go with all white or gold covers

Re: Zebra Pickups on an Alpine White LP?

No don't. Double creme bobbins do work on some white strats, but not on that Alpine white LP.

Re: Zebra Pickups on an Alpine White LP?

Black and WHITE zebra pups! Superspectacularcool.

Re: Zebra Pickups on an Alpine White LP?

Honestly, I don't think the zebras look very great with the gold hardware. If you were dealing with chrome hardware by all means I'd install some zebra pickups. Unfortunately that isn't the case though so I'd definately stick with the gold humbucker covers. The gold pickup covers compliment the other gold hardware on the guitar IMO. Zebras just wouldn't look right

Re: Zebra Pickups on an Alpine White LP?

Ditto!!! Black and whites but not creme and black. On of the sweetest looking lps Ive ever seen is one Steve Stevens has in an ad the run in guitar mags.. Its a white custom, creme binding, white pups with gold poles.

I agree with this. When I saw this thread with the zebras I automatically thought that it'd look best with all white pickups a la Steve Stevens. I say put in the zebras to 1) see how they sound and 2) see how they look. If you're satisfied with both, keep them in there. If they sound good but don't look good, go all white... or what ever color suits your fancy.

Re: Zebra Pickups on an Alpine White LP?

Also, not to be a downer, but the gold will wear off anyhow..
Fretburner, if you like it, go for it! I USED to hate zebra pups. I liked solid black or white. I couldnt understand why so many love them.. one day I got a great deal on a pickup model I wanted. The catch is that it was zebra. I got it and put it in.. I found myself loving to look at that guitar..
Moral of the story, if YOU think it looks cool, do it and you will love it.

Re: Zebra Pickups on an Alpine White LP?

It seems nobody liked the idea. I guess I'll just have to save up for a C5 and 59 with gold covers.

I wish I wasn't lazy and try those zebras on and just pull it out if it didn't work...
