zeppelin drum test

I've always wanted to use the zeppelin drum set in slate. figured I'd do a little test.

bass is going through line 6 podfarm 2; the one guitar is through a precision electronics PA (7868 tubes) & mesa 1x12 w/crunch box. lotsa flubbed notes (I think I need to intonate this axe), but you get the idear.

oh, it was also a test to try and play bass only with fingers. I like that sound better but seldom try to pull it off. going to have to practice at it more.

Re: zeppelin drum test

Which LZ drum kit? Bonham used several different ones.

Re: zeppelin drum test

Dunno, sorry. Website says something about an "authentic zep kit recorded in a stone castle"

Re: zeppelin drum test

ah, I see. the only thing shown in the program that might also be of help are green toms (brand name not visible), a green ludwig kick, and a white or silver-ish colored snare. the names just say "old zep...."

at any rate, I'm lovin' the snare sound. bass drum gets a little buried even if high in the mix.

Re: zeppelin drum test

I like all of the sounds going on here! What DAW are you using?

Thanks twilight - this was logic express (9 maybe, I forget), but I did track the 6-string guitar on my PC laptop in reaper. Should be fun to do a proper type song with this setup.

I just upped the RAM from 1gb to 6gb so hopefully it'll stall out less when I go to do the next tune. Before when I'd get about 10+ tracks, midi drums, effects, and automation it'd get pretty bogged down. Freezing tracks helped, a trick I only recently figured out.

Re: zeppelin drum test

Plugins use vast amounts of resources. Another trick is to export all you MIDI and virtual instrument tracks and then re import them as audio files. Will save you tons of processing power. Same goes with EQ, etc. once you get a track to where you like it, save your session w another name so you have a back up, and print the track. No reason not to commit if it sounds good, will save your PC from crashing (which will happen anyway), and will give you something to revert to if need be.

Re: zeppelin drum test

I ask the question of those more knowledgeable...

What kit was Bonzo using on "Fool In The Rain"? I love the snare on this one.
(NSFW for language when the "play" button is pressed... typical Bonham!)

Re: zeppelin drum test

wow his drumming is amazing! I dig all the reverb on that track, the bassdrum sounds huge as well. I do those tactics that twilight was saying, I freeze-render tracks a lot and save mixing sessions and original tracks unprocessed, most recently I have just been saving based on the date so that they are all saved in chronological order and I can find them more easily ;)
