Zhang is the mang! (custom pup content)

After much thought about a new single coil for the bridge position of my Strat, I pm'ed Zhangliqun about winding a pup for me. We talked on the phone briefly and I explained that I was looking for a vintage sound, without icepick highs and a really good quack when paired with the mid pup, so he suggested an A5 at 9.7K with a tap at 7.7K.

I recieved the pup Thursday and wired it up, it sounded great by itself, although it was out of phase with the other pups. I called Zhang up and he got me squared away on the wiring with no problem.

Fast forward to the gig Saturday night ........ I was blown away with the tone.....in the tapped position it has a vintage Strat vibe and paired with the mid pup it quacks like Donald Duck. No icepick, very open and airy sounding and there is a bonus, at full power it retains most of the clarity along with adding some serious meat to the tone. This pup sound great clean or dirty (loves the Crunchbox).

I'm very satisfied with the tone and build of this badboy... as a matter of fact, I'm seriously considering some custom pups for the neck and middle. If you are hell bent on getting a certain tone, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot Zhangliqun a pm.... good stuff brothers.

Seymour needs to snatch him up before Darth DiMarzio turns him to the Dark side....

Glad to hear it! .If you're like me, you'll like it more as you play it. You wont be sorry with a full set either. Just dont get a Tele and put his pups in, you wont know which axe to play.

I just recently had Zhang do some retro work on a set of humbuckers and he is an absolute pleasure to deal with, highly recomended. I have one of his Neck buckers on the way, cant wait to try it.

He most definitely does great work. He rewound a set of single-coils for me a while back and I've once again asked him for his services in rewinding them yet again. Very nice guy and a pleasure to deal with.
