Zvex Box of Rock vs. Lovepedal AMP11

Both of them are good pedals. I like both of them.

Hope that it'd be useful to somebody someday...

They both sound pretty good, but not as good as the MXR Super Badass Distortion, imo. Plus the MXR has much more gain on tap if you need/want it. But I find that it excels in its crunch (about half gain).

no offense, but it sounds like the amp was pushed kinda hard to begin with, making the pedals sounds a bit squashed/buzzy. I thought these were more for turning a super clean amp into a marshall-type sound as opposed to a boost to an already overdriven signal.

I dig your lead work!

I really like that BoR .... sounds kinda fuzzy at parts

Cool. Glad to see you like it.

Right on, the BOR somehow has a bit more fuzziness to it. But in a cool way you know. This also has to do with me setting the amp right on the verge of breakup. But anyways that's how I am using all my pedals.

Cool.

I also like the MXR SBD.

No offense taken at all. Thanks for the input.

You are right. I am setting my amp on the verge of breakup. Vol~4 with the master cranked all the way. That's how I like my Blues Jr. and that is sorta where I am trying all these pedals. Bogners and all included.

I disagree with you about these pedals (BoR and AMP11 which has a huge push to begin with) being intended for "turning a super clean amp into a marshall-type sound". I'd say that's not the only concern and not all the people in the world are playing Fender Blackfaces you know.

:)

For example I kinda remember the initial BoR video done by Zvex with a Plexi, which was not super clean at all. He was sorta suggesting that this pedal would "turn it into a master volume" amp...

To summarize, I agree with you. I should not forget to mention these stuff. That I am sorta trying the pedal with my Blues Jr. on the verge of breakup, for stage use and all...

Best,

I see - thanks for the explanation!

Re: Zvex Box of Rock vs. Lovepedal AMP11

I also have a BOR, but never have found a setting I like through my Blues Jr. Which is odd, because through other amps, it sounds a lot like my Fulltone OCD in HP mode, but the OCD sounds great through the Blues Jr.

It's funny how pedals can be picky about what they're in front of.

And our ears maybe quite different you know. Because the OCD was one of the pedals that I did not like at all with my Blues Jr. To me it was too scooped, and Xotic BB+ was sorta much better.

When compared with a BOR, I would go with the BOR instead of the OCD. Again the same reason...

Re: Zvex Box of Rock vs. Lovepedal AMP11

That IS weird how pedals react differently to different amps.

Last weekend I adjusted my Egnater Rebel 30 and my Marshall Vintage Modern to sound nearly identical in clean mode (both going into the same 2x12 cab with a head switcher). When I switched on my Super Badass Dist., it was very crisp and clear with great note separation through the Rebel...sounded amazing!! Way better than the amp's internal gain [which is really pretty good actually]. When I switched to the Marshall head it sounded mushy, flubby, very middy, with no note separation...sounded horrible...the amp's own gain was much better.

Re: Zvex Box of Rock vs. Lovepedal AMP11

Right on!

I completely agree. The amp's gotta be a part of the whole pedal evaluation thing. Over the years, I ended up knowing my Blues Jr. inside out, and so, be able to "interpolate" how a pedal (that I know how it sounds with my Blues Jr.) will be sounding with another amp that I know, without trying... Indeed, that is exactly why I am using my blues Jr. in them vids, while I have other amps that I love much more than my blues jr.

On the other hand, your experience with the Rebel and the JVM is puzzling. Maybe their clean channels don't sound similar when pushed hard, while without the push the results are sorta similar. That would explain it, no?

Re: Zvex Box of Rock vs. Lovepedal AMP11

That sounds correct. Neither amp was pushed much. the SBAD did all the pushing. Didn't like what it did to the JVM, that amp sounded so much better by itself. But the Rebel with the SBAD was truly amazing.
