  • Wanted: new flanger pedal (some restrictions apply)

I'm getting pretty tired of my old Boss BF3. I want something better.

I like a thick, swirly, jet-taking-off kind of flange. But it cannot be much larger than the Boss size stomp box. Pedal board real estate is very limited.

I've tried flagers by MXR, Digitech, and Ibanez. None of those really had the sound I was looking for. What else is out there?

    Thanks!
If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane.

Try any Fulltone or Voodoo Labs (granted VL may be slightly bigger than the Boss Pedal.)

The Vortex is a cool Flanger. I have one for a couple of weeks. Really nice pedal!

The BF-2 is a fair bit better sounding then the BF-3 but still there are better flangers out there. It is cheapish and yes BOSS sized. I brand I just heard of you may find on eBay is Onnerr which are meant to be pretty nice (in the BOSS vein) and Made In Brazil. Had an Ibanez but it was too honky sounding. I have always had a flanger sound in my head that not many pedals I have tried quite had it.

I'm surprised you liked the BF-3 at all. Most pedals I can gel with at least a little bit, and I give them a while before I decide I don't like them, but the BF-3 was not such a pedal. I really like the new TC Electronics TonePrint pedals, though, so I wouldn't hesitate to try a Vortex Flanger.

For a thick flanging sound you should put it in fx loop

Gonna give the Carl Martin classic Flange a try. Should be here tomorrow.

Anybody have any experience with Carl Martin pedals?

My favorite flanger pedal is the HBE Frost Bite... but holy cow it's huge.
