  • iOS + Guitar users! I need your input.

So, I just sold off my practice rig because it was gathering dust, but I figured since I got myself an iPhone might as well put it to use. I've been looking into interfaces and amp simulators. Which would you recommend? I'm looking for a couple of sounds and I guess I wouldn't mind having several different apps that do that specific sound a bit better overall. I'd love:

    a) A good rawk sound, with plenty of crunch and booty, in good measures, hopefully that can be tamed or pushed a little bit. Think hot rod Marshall Plexi but on the lower gain end of that sound.
    b) A good Fender-y, Deluxe Reverb-y sound.

Effects and integration with iOS Garageband would be pretty cool. As for interfaces, I see the ones that go with the Lightning/30-Pin connectors get less noise and better overall sound than the ones that go through the 1/8 jack. Which one would you guys recommend? Apogee JAM?

Complaining that there are hypocrites in church is like complaining that fat people use the gym. Where else would you have them be?

Another vote for amplitube. Works great on my ipod. Sounds pretty good too. NIce features. I got the full version for 10$ on sale (20$ reg) and couldn't be happier when I'm traveling or need to be really quiet.

I have the iPhone and Mac version. I haven't played an amp at home since November.

Some popular apps out there. All have basic free versions to test drive with an amp and a few effects. Amplitube has a marshall in the free app and it is really good imo. Interfaces will run anywhere from $15 to $100, depending on if you go for the HD versions or not. I have the $15 Peavey interface and I use the Jamup app that I purchased for 20 bucks. In most cases you wont have to use the app that is associated with that particular interface you have, but you will want to research it some before you purchase.

All the apps will do what you are looking for, plus some various stuff that one app might have that another does not. The free versions will help you sort that out.

I don't think there's more to be said here, but was the title supposed to be a pretty nice pun? :P

The JamUp gear is fantastic. The Plug sounds pretty damned good for one that is used on the TRS jack, and JamUp Pro has some awesome tones and features.

I use Amplitube on the iPhone with the iRig piece and love it. It's perfect for late night jamming or for when I don't want to drag out the amp. Having a baby in the house again makes this the perfect practice setup for me. I've got the Soldano model from the Custom Shop and a few other nice ones too.
