The DS-1 is such a fun pedal to mod. The sound can change drastically with just a few swaps. I still need to tweak mine a little. There's just a tad too much bass.

Rid has actually said he can mod them to a more JMP/800type tone, IIRC.
What years were the 2203? Were they the 50 watt heads? I had an 81 or 82 JCM800 50w and through my Univox U1246B 50w head and 4X12 Celestion cab it nails, just nails the sound of my old amp. However, through my Bassman it sounds different--still JCM800 like--but just freaking killer, especially when I use it in stereo with my Vox Valvetronix.

With the way most Marshall amps have their own sound anyway, maybe he nailed what I determined to be the JCM 800 sound which is different from your interpretation. Ok--I'm getting too deep, gotta stop listening to Pink Floyd for awhile, lol.
