Yeah, I've gotten so sick of people chasing the Eddie tone or doing a frankensein strat copy, etc. Just seems ultimately futile, but I can see why people love the tone on those old VH albums and the look of the guitars.
Yet somehow, despite not being a VH nut, I've made a black & yellow striped tele, beat the heck out of it, put a strat neck on it and a Duncan '78 pickup in it... I love old VH, but really just did this one because I was bored, I like the black/yellow color scheme, and wanted to do something just totally rock and roll. I had seen some other folks do a tele w/ this sort of vibe and thought I'd do a take on it. The taping and painting took a surprisingly small amount of time to do. I think I went from bare wood to fully painted in a day?
