I'd call Gibson.
BillWhen you've had budget guitars for a number of years, you may find that your old instrument is holding you back. A quality guitar can inspire you to write great songs, improve your understanding of the Gdim chord while in the Lydian Mode, cure the heartbreak of cystic acne--and help you find true love in the process.

I have seen a serial number like that before, but I'm not knowledgeable enough about 70's LP's to know where it belongs and where it doesn't. If you post that over at the My Les Paul Forum, you'll get some expert information pretty quickly. If you don't have an account or don't want to create one, I'd be happy to post the link over there for you. Let me know.

Well, serial numbers for 75, 76 and 77 were all on oval decals. So if its just the presence of an oval shape then that is absolutely normal for that period.
Of course there could be a refin, due to the double looking edge around the oval. Needless to say, look for any headstock damage that might have lead to such an occurence.

Yes looks legit to me. Late 75, 76 and 77 all head decal serial numbers on the headstocks. I had a 77 Standard with one (one guitar i regret selling).Charvel, Kramer, Gibson, Fender, MIJ/US Epiphone, BC Rich
Full Shred, Distortion, JB, Custom (Custom), Screamin' Demon, Cool Rails, Alternative 8, Mini Humbucker, Lil 59, 59, APH-1, Black Winter, Silverbird, SP90, PATB1,2,3, YJM, 59/custom hybrid, SSL-1 AH1BJ, Jazz, Antiquity JB/Jazz, Alpha/Omega

Re: Can you confirm this is a real 1975 Les Paul Deluxe?
^don't assume that the images all are of the searched year. This period can be hard to date, plus people like to claim earlier dates either through ignorance or as a deliberate attempt to conjure an increased price for sale.
But additionally 75 marked the splitting of factories and duties between Kalamazoo and the brand new Nashville factory. But you can imagine that the 1st of Jan wasn't straight into full production. Kalamazoo still would have made some with the old 6 digit system.
