  • Urgent: Sovtek Mig-50 Head

I need some quick replies guys.

There is a Sovtek Mig 50 head for sale at a local pawn shop.
Price is 450AUD ($330 united states dollars).

    IS this amp any good?
Is it worth the money, Is it a steal or overpriced?
    Pro's and Con's?
    What is the tone like?

Any help would be good guys.

    Plz assist.

If you say its good, I'm gonna go back tomorrow and try it out.

No idea about the price, but they're pretty cool amps.

I've seen for around 300. That seems like around the ballpark if it's in good condition.

It's a bit dirtied up - But I can fix that.

        - Ok, so if around 300 is the G. O. then, what kind of tone will it produce?

Will it be a better platform for my V-amp2 or once I get it will I throw the v-amp2 out the window?

Will it produce Fender clean or Mesa Clean?
Will it dirt up like a Marshall or a cheap Ashton?

        Thx Chris and Msawitzke.

I say you go into that pawn shop and ruin the owner's day by playing through the amp until the guy pays you to take it away. In other words: try to get all the tones out of it that you can, see if there is any reason you wouldn't want to take it before you lay your money down.

But if its that good, I'll be back.

I would take your guitar with you, your best guitar, just so you can really get to know what sounds you'll be able to get out of the thing.

                $300 sounds alright.

The one I played was kinda superb non-Marshall AC DC amp. It reminded me of a JTM 45 tone. I don't really remember - but hey who cares about cleans when it sounds "Back in Black?

I'm taking in my Epi and my v-amp2, just to be sure.

I would use my v-amp2 in front of it after reading all those reviews.

                  - I found that it is a copy of the JTM45 and the Fender Bassman.
It is designed by Mark Bruno and his custom amps are very highly favoured.
I am keen to try it out this after noon.

If your gonna get that amp test it for its tone. The vamp is better suited for a cleaner voiced amp. These are cool for vintage fender/marshall type tones. I don't know if the two would work well together. Perhaps trying it both ways...

Everyone on Harmony Central uses stomp boxes in front of the Sovtek.

I have a fender 112se w/ my vamp through it but I prefer my v-amp into a Fender Deluxe 1x12.

I like tube tone from the deluxe w/ the vamp.

I will see how I go this afternoon.

                      Peace out.

                      Anymore help would be great

I know a guy in a local band who uses that head on it's matching 2-12 cab, along with a LP Goldtop.

I'd say his tone was good, but nothing that makes heads turn.
Try it, and buy it only if the tone you hear is one you want as your signature tone. Since they're one channel amps, what you
hear is what you get, give or take.

Honestly, if I were you, I'd probably save a few more dollars
and make one major amp purchase that you know you'll love for years.

I thought the amp resembles a JCM 800??? It is a cool amp though, and $300 sounds about right. Try it first and see if you like the tone. Another option would be get the amp and get it mod. A lot of people does this. Plus is a good , affordable tube amp to this type of project.
