Frank Zappa's response when asked how he can have/afford so many guitars: "I don't do coke."

I figure I'll always be satisfied with one more.....

I love guitars the first time I saw Rick Neilsen's collection I knew I wanted to be a Rock Star. Forget the money, the chicks, the fame I wanted more guitars then him, still do. OK so don't forget the other stuff I still want all the guitars I can get my hands on.

              I own 13 guitars......

Beacause I can. Because my wife allows me to. Because I want to. Because I built half of them myself and it keeps me off the street and my wife knows it.

Maybe it is because I am slightly wacko?

Who the heck knows. But I do enjoy it.

I've always been a guy who wanted cool gear, like most players,
but came to a realization early......If you buy the most desireable
stuff as cheap as humanly possible, it's an investment that's
got no ability to go down, only UP!

For that reason, I keep my eyes peeled for "giveaway" deals on
pieces I know I can either keep and sell later, or sell immediately.
The problem is that I can't bear to let some of them go, so I constantly upgrade by parting with my less favorites, in favor
of new favorites. This way, I always have top notch stuff,
always make money when I do a transaction, and have enough
stuff on hand to sell, should my financial situation go bad.
I'm no rich guy, I can tell you that.

I have a lust for amps that far exceeds my lust for guitars.
This Saturday, I'm doing a gear deal that's gonna result in
$1000 in my pocket, plus another Bogner Ecstasy head,
basically free. I'll play it for awhile, but since I already have
a Bogner rig, I'll eventually sell that head for $2300. Mo MONEY!

                      I have 7 guitars.
An ash american strat that I've modified
                      3 Ibanez's: JPM P2, S470FM, and AF120 Hollowbody
                      A Takamine EF341C acoustic/electric
A crappy classical guitar I won from a Sam Ash drawing..
and a strat copy from JC penny that was my first electric.

I never play the classical, and the JC penny has been disassembled for a while, so I really consider that I have 5 usable guitars. And I still want more!!!! I'm in the process of assembling a custom fat strat, I want to get a les paul, I want to get a bass... I don't think it will ever end. I'm just addicted to buying gear. I just constantly think of what new guitar or gear I want so I'm ready when the funds are available.

Wow! I'm surprised by how many responses are here. It's better to be addicted to guitars than some other things I can think of. I have 3 guitars myself. A Wolfgang Special for the humbucking crunch, a Strat for the snap and quack and a Tele for the twang. That's about all I need, but one day I would'nt mind buying a real nice acoustic.

I've got three now (my Oddball Strat, Parker NiteFly, and Yamaha FG acoustic), but I'm jonesing for three more eventually. I'm saving up for Gibson SG Standard, will set my sights on a 50's RI Tele after that, and maybe one day I'll buy a real Parker Fly. I've got the amp to last me a few years (my DSL) and I only use the acoustic for lessons and practice. It could happen!

Fender Deluxe Double Fat Strat (Carvin SD22/M22N)
                          Yamaha FG-413S acoustic
                          Marshall G15CDR

                          Marshall 1960A
                          Boss ME-50
                          ...and just a little talent.
