could anyone suggest a good setup (strat s/s/s) for everything from funk, blues to pop/rock and hardrock/metal

For the Vintage Tone: Duncan Antiquitys (either Surfers or Texas Hots) with a master volume, master tone and blender pot.

Or for a stronger chunkier tone than vintage: Duncan APS-2/APS-2/Twangbanger with master volume, master tone and blender pot.

Fralin Vintage Hots are great too and if you're on a tighter budget, Duncan SSL-1 or SSL-2 are excellant.
