Yup, different approaches, with some similar results.
I put the Invader triple mag setup into the Deto/498 hybrid (yes, the coils actually match up), you can imagine what that sounds like with the coils out of phase, lolz, not good. I don't think I'll be trying that in this pickup though, I may get a wild hair and try an A8, but I really like it as it is with the single big ceramic. I imagine that a JB/Custom wouldn't be all that different, or the DD/Custom for that matter. Metalmachine raves about his DD/C with the big ceramic, that's what gave me the confidence to use one for this. Lats just has the A8 on top of a spacer.
As for the A-Pig v. C-Pig, mine's alnico, but I've played with the ceramic too. It's more a matter of what you're doing with it at what tuning and in what guitar. A Les Paul tuned to A is probably not the best place for an A-Pig, unless you're doing SunnO))). It's a really unique pickup, big low end and low mids with great clarity and pick attack. The ceramic is hotter and a little harder/tighter.
