the paf joe has a lot of good reviews : because of the harmonics and the fact that it can give some strat sound and some heavy shred sound in neck
versatile pickup with volume: i like it

i have a paf joe in neck and i prefer to keep it (too much complicated to change 2 pickups, seymour, dimarzio, too long to choose)

for example : a 490 in a sg gives a warmer sound, creamy and i don't know if a paf joe change will make some change or not

      but now
in fact, the fred pickup is particular: MIDS are between a single coil and a hb
      but it's time to change!

i would like to have a little les paul sound too but with a fast shred playing too
      good split
      better clean tones

i looked at a lot of videos and websites, review etc

i would like a pickup between gary moore (live montreux 90 for example), john sykes and satriani, sambora

so, between a mojoe, sh4 jeff beck, norton and breed
      what's your choice and why?

      my topic is brand new
and even if there are some new pickups (gravity), i prefer to see old pickups

when i see mo joe videos, IMO it has a les paul sound
Ah, so you already have a PAF Joe but want to change the bridge pickup from a Fred to something else. I meant the thread bumps to the old threads, but anyways. Since you are deciding between the mojoe, norton, breed & sh4, may as well replace the sh4 choice with Dimarzio AT1. Here's an example of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o4T6RKOLZo

As you can see it sounds much brighter than what dimarzio has it rated for EQ wise on their tone chart.

OH!! Yeah follow Hank's advice. Dimarzio players often use the Breed Neck model in the bridge position for that type of sound as well.

Re: paf joe dimarzio+sh4 jeff beck

i talked to larry dimarzio and by mail with a dimarzio tech

          he said
The website does not say you must buy a Breed neck model for the bridge position. It says the Breed neck model will work in the bridge position as well as in the neck.
          this is particular!

yes i've heard some things about the at1 but no
i played again with the fred
good pickup (not a fat sound and not big outpout)

for lyric rock, singing notes, shred, legato
          santana a little too

but for blues and gary moore : no !!!!
that’s the problem of this bridge pickup

Re: paf joe dimarzio+sh4 jeff beck

            i tried a strat with c69
in bridge position: better than fred (because the sound is brighter than the fred)

i tried a sh4b in another guitar :the same thing

i don't know if it's the ibanez guitar but the sound is a little cold or dark even with distorsion

IMO, sh4 is better in bridge (16k too)

If your afraid the AT-1 doesn't have enough treble, then the Breed neck is a good alternative.

i think the problem is the guitar

                a andy timmons sounds better
                and warmer in video

Have you tried using a tubescreamer pedal, like a Digitech Bad Monkey for example? A push from one these might just give you what you looking for instead of a new pickup. What amp & speakers are you using though?

                    ts9
the blues driver BOSS helps a lot to have trebles
but when i play with a strat with bridge position, i see the differences even with a vintage outpout single coil

but i will try another pickup just to confirm this
                    fantastic laney lc 15-110
