  • 59 / JB Hybrid anyone ?

I really like my JB ant and would also like to have a slightly lower output JB style pickup , I have tried mag swaps and all the height adjustments and it's still not working .
So I got to thinking , the 59/Custom Hybrid was a nice pickup and close to the output I am looing for but still does'nt have the same kind of midrange bark like the JB does .
Has anyone tried a 59/JB Hybrid experiment or had one made through the CS ?

I'd be interested to see how 2 wildly different coils work together, and if there is any lack of hum-cancelling. I'd think that the 59 would bring that bark level way down. though, since it is pretty scooped. I'd think a 59 with a parametric EQ after the gain stage it could get some of that bark in there, though.

I just made a JB/Seth hybrid and it came out great. It lowered the output and opened it up with vintage sound and dynamics but kept some of the characteristic bark. I think any well chosen vintage output coil, like the 59, would work. Mine is quiet.

Which magnet did you go with for this new pickup design ?
Also what DC reading did the pickup end up having ?

I posted a thread recently about this. I'll find it and bump it

I used double thick A3 and it came out really nice. It metered about 12.5k.

                I thought that sounded great.
Can you do one at 80’s gain levels? When I think of a JB, I think of Warren DiMartini. I’d love to hear how your pickup differs.
