      No it absolutely does not. The rigidity of the wood matters quite a bit though. For example hard rock maple is much more rigid than mahogany. The more rigid the wood, then more of the higher frequencies are retained instead of lost. However, this applies to the neck more than any other part on the guitar as the neck functions as a cantilever and experiences most of the vibrations where the strings are concerned. Another example is how bright carvin guitars are: Usually the necks are made of maple, are neck through, and in addition to having a truss rod, they are reinforced by two graphite rods.         Hmmmmmm just got a very light LP Standard Maghony body maple top.... don't know where that fits in
