First off, thanks to everyone who contributed to the poll. As I've mentioned before, it's no easy task trying to come up with five favorite guitarists, let alone rank them. Still, I think it was a fun challenge for everyone involved.
Secondly, let me say I hope you all don't hate me for pulling a fast one on you with the phony Top 20 list. I need to have a little fun on April Fools' Day. You were good sports about it, and even given that fake list, a lot of people came up with strong arguments for why so-and-so should or should not have made the list. At a minimum, it was an interesting sociological experiment. (I will admit that a small handful of members were in on the gag, but I will not reveal their names.)
Lastly, I'd like to remind everyone that this is a culmination of votes for favorite guitarists, not best guitarists. It's a representation of the opinions and tastes of a small sample of forum members. (I received ranked votes from 194 forum members, with a total of 290 unique guitarists counted.) I did my best to include as many people as possible in a short amount of time.
What follows is a list of the top 75 guitarists, as favored by the SDUGF. I could list more, but as you get further down the list, you get a lot of three-, four- and five-way ties. (There are, in fact, 77 guitarists represented in the list, but the last three -- #75, #76 and #77 -- were actually in a tie, so I had to include all three.)
Again, this is the real list -- no Willie Nelson here. Take time to read through it, find where your picks landed, then have a fun discussion about the results. Thank you, everyone!
