  • C5 Ibanez. Metal.

    Hi, guys.
I haven't been recording much lately, due to constantly being out of town.
I recently swapped the C5/a2p set from my dean hardtail, and put it in my Ibanez RG321mh. I originally did that so I could do better funky strat-like tones. Yep, its more funky, but I suck at that style. So I played with my high gain settings on the PODxt, and was very impressed with the articulation of the C5, especially in this "shredder" guitar.

So, I converted one of my songs I wrote for 7-string guitar, into a standard tuned six-string song.

High praise for the C5 for metal, at least from me. Have a listen, and let me know what you think.

    Thanks
    Nick

Wow well defined and lot of chug, love the mids although the C5 comes more or less scooped?

Really nice right hand technique, dig the riff. Stick with the guitar/pup combo, sounds like a winner to me.

Nah. The C5 isn't scooped. It's just has much less mid 'push' than a CC or a JB. Seems to have less output than either.

Yep, this combo really works well for this guitar, and this cheap ibanez is quickly becoming my #1.

Oh ok, sounds good! A JB didn't work with my RG, your Ibby is also made of basswood, isn't it? Maybe I had to try the custom series back then out instead of the JB *shiver*

Actually, My rg is mahogany. I think a JB would be a bit thin in this guitar, not enough bass, and screechy, but I haven't tried it.

Awesome sound and precise playing. Super tight and aggressive. I love it! Do you have any clips of the C5 lead tone?

Here's a song I did when I had the C5 in my Dean Hardtail. One of the few I put a solo in.

I haven't recorded the lead tone with the C5 in my Ibanez yet. I've been playing Satriani lately, so maybe I'll record that soon.

The mids sound a little compressed but punchy. It is a great sound and what an interesting pickup. I like your playing too. You play the kind of stuff I like to play except you have better tone

                  Thanks, Ed.

The C5 was a bit compressed in the Dean, but it still worked pretty well. I think this pickup sounds much more open and articulate in the Ibanez.

HA! When the main riff kicked in I started headbanging, great stuff!

                        Thanks guys.

I hope to do much more recording with this guitar, and soon.
Maybe I'll have time in the near future to actually write something new.

Yeah, the main riff that starts at 0:18 is killer!!

Great tone and riffing, seems like I'll get me a C5 equibbed mahogany axe.

Iron Horse, I don't think you can go wrong with that combo, plus, if you need more output, you can always swap a ceramic or alnico 8 mag in there.
