  • '68 Strat & Ulbrick Venue 30

I haven't posted any clips for awhile, but I've got some time off the road and I decided to mess around with my Ulbrick Venue 30 combo. So I stuck my Heil PR-30 in front of the cab and recorded this snippet to share with you. The reverb is from the amp, neck pickup (SSL-1) and just a post HPF to take care of the rumble in the room.

Do you mean CE-1 Dr, as in chorus? If so, no, there's no effects on there...the modulation is just the vibrato arm on the Strat.

Wow .... is that the power of vintage wood or of Ulbrick?

Very nice tone and playing. I thought you might go into Blackbird for a moment there.
I'm not a single coil Fender guy but the guitar I am borrowing has single coils. It is noisy as hell. How do you keep your signal noise free?

I'd say it's both, with some vibrato arm technique thrown in for good measure.

Thanks idr...it did get a little Blackbirdesque there for a moment.

The signal had some background noise, because I played it sitting in front of the computer, so I ran it through Waves X-Noise plug-in on the default setting and that took care of it, without stealing too much of the signal. All I can suggest is to stay away from as many sources of interference as possible, and search out the 'sweet silent spot' as we single coil players have always done in studios and at home when recording. I also found that the new cables I bought, the Evidence Lyric HG, seem to have cut down a lot of noise, I presume with their superior shielding.

P.S. And thanks Niels and That90'sGuy for listening...

                    Words to live by!

I'm usually sitting right in front of the monitor, computer, interface etc. and have tried to find that spot - still gets pretty noisy. I don't use single coil sounds often so it's not a big issue for me. Thanks for the tips!

Great sound Geoff and great trem technique. Simply wonderful. I'd also like to know what your signal chain and amp were on your tune "Stratmosphere." If I could get a strat to sound like that I would actually play mine more.
