Can't speak for parallel Distortion, but I have played one split. It's still a ceramic coil at the end of the day. Very bright, and I might argue very stray, but I'm not a single coil aficionado. You aren;t going to change the general qualities of the magnet just by splitting.

Looking at this set hard for my Tele. I want a 4 way switch for Lil '59hb, 59 split, 59 split + neck, neck My question is how will the Lil 59 match with the neck pickup? - Will it be an awesome balanced set? - Will I need to lower the neck? Just don't know about the Split 59 vs the Vintage...
