i think duncans paf type pups are very good. the neck version is usually more true to a paf than the bridge most of the time, but that typically suits modern players better. if you want a more true...
i used to use sunbeams for a while, really liked em. used fat beams on another bass. only have a short scale with flats at the moment. i think dr are made down in your neck of the woods. i use their pure blues 11s on basically everything these days
from my limited experience with real pafs, the bridge pup sounds like a fat tele pup. bright and snotty. i was able to crank my old deluxe reverb at the gig last night, playing a guitar with a set of seths and it was glorious.
it works with some amps, but usually doesnt do what ya want it to. as mentioned, it doesnt drop volume much and doesnt breakup much earlier. doesnt hurt to try it, but it hasnt been a successful experiment for me
