1 watt tube amp?

Re: 1 watt tube amp?

I'm looking at something similar right now too, a head very similar to the Z-vex Nano. It's called the Pico Plexi, and it's made by 'Ed's Custom Shop' here in the Netherlands. They come much cheaper than the Nano, at a price of 275 Euro's (which is about 335 USD). I think it runs on a 9V adaptor.

Check out this Dutch ad.

To give you a quick translation:

The Pico Plexi head is a 0,5 watt tube guitar amp, made to order at Ed's Custom Shop. Completely handbuilt from quality hardware (Hammond casing, Hammond output transformer, Mallory condensors, Switchcraft chassis parts, sheet metal resistors, silverplated wiring, Tesla (JJ?) tubes, ceramic tube sockets) and a unique concept: Finally you're able to achieve a tone very similar to that of a cranked Plexi Lead, without the huge volume levels associated with those amps. Volume and tone are interactive, and together influence the amount of drive, from a clean jazzy tone to that wellknown Marshall-drive.

I sure dig it!

Re: 1 watt tube amp?

check out the Gilmore Jr. amp kit at guytronix.com. Sound samples sound wicked. I think I'm going to try and build one of these.

I've built one of these. They are little mini half Watt tube dealies that are pretty decent. You'll want some tools, a few hundred bucks and eight hours of time ( collectively ). They're probably going to kick the crap out of a Marshall micro whatever. They are expandable to two watts, with some kind of "Marshall" or "Fender" mods also reversable & optional.

It'll make you tinkle your pants when you run one through your Marshall half stack. A little pricey, but pretty fun little confidence builders. I work at Home Depot, so I scored some of the tools cheap on a coupon.

Re: 1 watt tube amp?

I've got a bumbox lead one and I really like it although it does have one small fault (that's also it's main selling point): one watt. One watt = no clean headroom. It can get clean but the volume is really low. If you're into gritty blues and rock you'll really enjoy the amp. It can be quiet enough to keep the Mrs. happy and loud enough to make you happy. The price is right too...

Re: 1 watt tube amp?

this thread is so old it's got my old "dankerella" moniker in it, which I haven't used for a loooong time.

:biglaugh:
