10-52's

Re: 10-52's

Hehehe I use this set for Drop C tuning on my 25.5" Ibanez RGs.
Don't know how everyone rocks these in E standard!
I guess I play with a light touch.

Yep. I use them on my SuperSonic and one of my Teles in E standard and drop D (the low string dropped a whole step and the rest in standard. IE, not D standard). D'addario are my favourites.

Re: 10-52's

GHS Boomer TNTs - been a fan of this set for 20 years now. I do a lot of dropped open tunings (open G, double drop D, etc) and having the extra meat on the wound strings is pretty important to me. I also play them tuned standard E and like others have said, if you're a heavy hitter they don't flop around like a .46 set does.

Re: 10-52's

I tune down 1/2 step, and sometimes drop tuning from there. 10-52's are perfection if you like to pummel the low strings with power chords and palm mutes, but also want some flexibility for soloing. I don't mind these strings at all for standard tuning as well. Have 'em on gibson and fender scale lengths, seems to work well for both scales if you ask me.

Re: 10-52's

I've used Ernie Ball 10-52 for years, originally i was tuned to D but i'm now in standard but still love the heavy low strings. Helps for good tone too i think.

I completely agree, except that I no longer tune down. I used to, but I like the convenience of having everything tuned to E standard. Even then, the 10-52 sets are nice and responsive regardless of scale length.

Re: 10-52's

To me the 10-52 never just felt right to me, so I use 12-56 with a wound G in Eb on a telecaster. Perfect set for me.

Re: 10-52's

I really do like the GHS strings I have tried those. Usually I go with DR or SIT but I have yet to be disapointed by a set of GHS or D'Addario.

Re: 10-52's

GHS 10-52 is my preferred string set. I use it on any guitar that has individually adjustable saddles because you can't intonate properly otherwise (I have a Duo Jet with a bar bridge, and a Tele with Barden three-barrel compensated saddles - I use 10-46 on those).

I love the snap and power of the big low strings combined with the relative bend-ability of the high strings.

Re: 10-52's

It depends on the other gear I use at the time, with fat pickup like the tone zone, 52 gauge low E doesn't help at all.. it sounds much better with standard 10s.
with my present setup I use D'addario EXL110+ 10.5-48, sounds pretty good.
Also, I don't like 10-52s HUGE tension jump on the wound strings.

Re: 10-52's

I will never understand how guys love Ernie Balls to each their own I suppose

I've been using Ernie Ball strings for more than 15 years & have had no probs with them & i also use them with Kahler's in a couple of guitars(which people ay they suck with Kahler's) & they still rule so what's your problem with them?

Re: 10-52's

I use them but for C# standard. I go for the Sabbath sound and love the slack in the strings. Most people go to 12s when they tune down but that kind of negates the point if you want Sabbath sound. Iommi uses 42-9 at C#. Thats how u get the sound.
