10" Greenback & 10" Creamback together?

Hi, I bought a Friedman Little Sister and have a couple 8 ohm speakers I'd like to put in a 2x10 cab. I'm wondering how it would sound wired in series, and if it'll get me close to JTM45 territory?

The cab I'm looking at is semi-closed back. Speakers are 10" Greenback and 10" Creamback.

Thank you.

I used to have a 10" Greenback. It was 8 ohm as well. It was cool-sounding for a 10" speaker. I bet they'd sound good in a bigger box like a 2x10. In an single 1x10, it sounded toy-like.

10" Celestions are REALLY inefficient, so keep that in mind. Good thing is you'd likely get a chance of getting that juicy cranked amp sound at slightly lower volumes.

I doubt they'd sound JTM-ish, though. That's the Bluesbreaker combo you mean, right? Those had Alnico speakers in them, didn't they?

My 10" Greenback did have the Greenback vibe, just smaller. Meaning less low-end but less high-end as well and a slight boxy voice to the mids.

You can hear it in this demo:

I'm sure a bigger cab would help ease some of those symptoms to an extent.

Hi Rex, I think the early Bluesbreaker (JTM45) had 15 watt Alnicos. Then they came with Greenbacks @ 25 watts each.

Inefficient is fine… I’ll be in the garage with a couple friends, drinking beers and playing stuff like Cream, Small Faces, early Zeppelin, etc.

I’m a bit skint right now, but if there’s another 10” option that might sound better, I can always check for used. Cheers

Well, there certainly isn't going to be a more Greenback-like 10" alternative that an actual 10" Greenback, LOL. They still sound like 10" speakers, though. But they're as good as 10" speakers get, IMO.

If you've already got the speakers, I think it's certainly worth a try. I always wanted to try the 10" Creamback, personally. If there's one thing I would've changed about the 10" Greenback is to make it brighter for my own taste. It was really dark compared to my 12" GB's, but that's also because those were 16 ohms and my 10" was 8 ohms. Typical difference.

Oh, I was referring to the tone of the Alnico. The 10" Creamback is amazing. But it needs to be partnered with something that has a little more bass response - which is where the Greenback might come in handy.

Is it possible that I answered my own question? Perhaps. I'd still like to find out if anyone has used the 10" Greenback and Creamback together.

I didn't think the 8 ohm 10" Greenback was particularly fat, just kinda dark, but at that time, I was comparing it to all 12" speakers.

I do think they would make a good combo, though.

i think that could be a sweel combo. i run a jensen p10q and eminence lil buddy together and it kinda gets the american version of you are trying to get at. the p10q by itself is a bit thin and bright and the lil buddy has a big bottom but is a bit dark so they compliment each other well
