10" speaker suggestions

Re: 10" speaker suggestions

Have the Eminence Ragin' Cajun in a small 5 watt Ibanez TS amp - one 12ax7 and one 6v6. This is my bedroom amp, the quietest guitar amp I've ever heard.

The amp came with a Celestion Tubetone 10. The amp sounded muffled with indistinct lows and harsh highs. Swapped tubes and the amp still didn't sound tight enough or smooth enough. And the TS, sounded very harsh with a middy hump.

Started checking for 10" speakers. Came across another post recommending them. Checked out the website. Seems the Cajun has flat mids.
Ordered one and installed it. The amp has a bit more volume. And it made a dramatic improvement all around in the sound.

The bass is tighter. The highs aren't harsh. The speaker took over and finished what new tubes left over.

The best part - the TS is greatly improved. The mids aren't as pronounced and the OD is much smoother.

The amp NOW plays very nicely with my other OD pedals - FD2, OCD and the Badass 78. Aint had the courage to try my old MXR Doublehshot in this amp.

Re: 10" speaker suggestions

Hard to find a very bad speaker these days. Pretty much all the 10"s are very good. Technology has served us well in regard to speakers. There are some reported issues with some speakers , though. Like Jensen Alnicos 12's reproductions. Stick with the Webers and Celestions and Eminence for the most part.Eminence has the best Warranty in the speaker business.

Re: 10" speaker suggestions

I'm looking for a replacement speaker for my Blackstar Ht-5. The link was invaluable. Thanks!

The Gold was the best. The Jensen P10Q was second. The G10 Vintage was a close third. I'll have to find out if any of the speakers fit the amp cabinet.
