I love these lists! There's a lot to argue, of course, and then there's a good amount to agree with. They need a better editor, though. I see one glaring mistake on the first page already: Roy Buchanan's album is titled When a Guitar Plays the Blues, not When a Guitarist Gets the Blues. If you're going to diss someone, at least get straight what it is you're dissing. (And for the record, it's not one of my faves—not by a long shot—but I kinda dig "Sneaking Godzilla Through the Alley.")

That list just serves to show how out of touch with modern music taste the guitar playing community has grown on the whole. It saddens me to read album reviews in UK Guitar mags, I always get the feeling they've missed the point the whole time. It just adds ammunition to the camp that pops up every now and then to argue that guitar bands are dead or dying.

Whats wrong with American Woman (lenny Kravitz version) and All you Need Is Love? And zero is one of my favourite songs from that time period. Stir It Up is my favourite Marley song. I'm a big offspring fan and I don't get how Lightning Rod is trying to imatate hair metal?!?
Last of all 'Last NiGHt' by the Strokes while the solo isn't great his playing fits the garagey messing around style of the song.
I'm not saying these are the best solo's are anything but Ive heard much worse wanky shredding and bad note hitting or just plain boring solos then alot of those I listed.

Satriani got a lot of flack from critics who claimed his playing lacked emotion, so to prove he could play with feeling he called this song “Cryin’.” But with its insipid melody and excessive, harsh bends, the tune really deserves the title “Whinin’.” The album was mistitled, too—he should have named it The Excrement.

"Cryin'" is not my favorite song on the album, either, but the last sentence warrants a good old-fashioned butt-whooping.

I thought that American Woman Rocked..... I am not even a fan of Lenny. It is a totally diff thing Lenny was not even playing lead. I was always a big Beatles fan long before I even started listing to mainstream Rock. And I think George Harrison had a lot of taste.

I loved Extremist from start to finish. I still remember all my friends used to borrow my tape.

The guy who wrote the article thinks he's being witty, knowledgeable and controversial, but just ends up sounding like a dumbass. They're just trying to get in on the Rolling Stone best-of lists act.
