10X12 cabinet - definitely interesting

Need to figure out how to get better balance between 10 and 12....too much 12...both are Weber AlNiCo...

Re: 10X12 cabinet - definitely interesting

I find the “X” misleading.

Re: 10X12 cabinet - definitely interesting

Yeah, I was expecting to see a HUGE cab with 10 12inch speakers....

Probably not what you are asking since I assume you want a solution with the speakers you currently have but ...

More efficient 10" or lower ohm 10" with higher ohm 12". 8 ohm 10" with a 16 ohm 12", in parallel, will get you 5.3 ohm load. 2/3 power would go to the 10", 1/3 to the 12". All else being equal, it amounts to about a 3 db bump to the 10". If the amp can do 4 ohms, it will be fine. Amp set at 8 ohms would be fine as well. It's not much of a mismatch either way. I'd probably set the selector to 8 ohms. Assuming it's a tube amp.

I know your eye is drawn to the massive stack, but the regular size stack is running a 4x12 on top of a 2x15. Did Crate ever actually produce that combination of cabs before? Reminds me of the Randall Warhead stack, but their 2x15 was ported.

Re: 10X12 cabinet - definitely interesting

i think crate did put out the 2x12 for a while.

as far as the 1x10/1x12 cab... i have a combo like that and i love it. the 10" is an alnico weber 10a150t, the big 40oz magnet helps it keep up with the 12". if you have a small magnet 7oz alnico, it wont keep up even with a fairly inefficient 12"

Re: 10X12 cabinet - definitely interesting

I we should all agree that when multiple speaker sizes are used, we just put a / between them.

Re: 10X12 cabinet - definitely interesting

Mucho thanks for the ideas...Will find a higher efficiency 10 for this 10+12 cab...probably even put a real baffle in it once I get the configuration all set...

You need to look up the efficiency (dB) of each speaker. Different Weber 10s amd 12s have different efficiencies... although they mostly tend to be lower than most Celestions and Eminences, so experimenting with different 12's is probably not going to help

Probably change the 10... or maybe halfopen it behind the 12

does weber give those kind of specs? ive never seen them
