G&L supports their import line because they want them to be solid and well respected instruments, and they are. They get USA electronics and are set up at the USA shop before going out to shops. Their USA stuff is amazing but I would not turn down a Tribute line model.

Epiphone has gotten more and more solid as of late. I really like the 2020 models, especially the LP Modern. Incredible value there. I'm seriously considering one of those for myself. I mean, just look at this! https://www.epiphone.com/Guitar/EPIK...Graphite-Black

Yeah, what I meant was they seem like a reverse company. They have a ton of import guitars that carry their name and only a few US models. Like, their strategy is to continue to create US models only so they can say their import line is based on the US models... but they don't appear too focused on selling US models. Even their website is focused on the Tribute series.

Kind of how Washburn evolved... eventually turned into an import company that created a USA Custom Shop because they wanted to support the import line...

ESP makes some awesome LP style guitars
that come with Duncan pickups

They do and I like ESP/LTD so they are an option. I might end up getting a LTD goldtop because I know they are solid and the Gibson goldtop (even satin) is over $1000

Thats a good call, you can find plenty of used E-II Eclipses out there and occasionally some pre-E-II ESP Standard Eclipses out there for $1500 or less

The EBMM EVH was never $1299, it was close to $3k when it was new. The Axis' was never that cheap either. But on the used market they could be had for $1200 - $1500 easily, that has changed, if one pops up at $2k it's gone in a day, especially since Ed passed.

The Jackson PC1 was $3299 new 6 months ago, they are $4299 now, prices are going nuts.

Back in the early 90's when they hit the streets, the EVH EBMM was $1299 new at GC. I almost bought one at that price in 1993. A friend of mine worked at a location in Northern Cali and we stood there gawking at them until he finally said "HERE, play it!" and handed me an Amber one. That's the one guitar I should've bought but never did. At some point they jumped up to $1699 and then after Ed left for Peavey and it became the Axis, prices slowly crept up higher and higher (thanks to inflation just like Fenders and Gibsons have done).

And I think (might be off a hundred or so) the Jackson PC-1 used to be $2499 like 20 years ago. That's how much prices have changed. It is insane!

Yeah, the $1000 jump in a few months on the PC1 is stupid. If I had known the EBMM's were $1299 I would have bought a few.... I know the list a few months ago on the Axis was $2699 or $2799, looks like they are $3099 now. Everything has gone up this year.

Well I want to Guitar Center today and wow - it was empty. Not a ton of product on the walls... and almost no used guitars.

They had ONE PRS S2 and ONE Gibson Tribute Studio. No other Studios. There were, however, about 20 semi-hollow guitars and another 20 $2500+ guitars.

The PRS S2 was a 22 standard and was AWESOME. I've never touched a PRS before and I was really blown away by the fit and finish AND the sound. It was a basic S2 with dots, but sounded so good. The hardware was solid and the electronics were really robust feeling (I know the knock on S2 guitars is that the electronics are the same as the SE models). I picked up 3 SE models and they were nice, but nowhere as nice as the S2.

The Gibson Tribute Studio... was not good. I'll leave it at that.

So, I think I might be looking at either a S2, a Carvin, or a SG standard.

PRS in general, makes really good instruments. Although, I didn't care for some of their older SE models, the newer ones are great. If a new player asked me to recommend a good starter if they had about $400-$600 to spend, I would tell them to go find a newish used SE because that guitar will last into intermediate playing.

The prs s2’s are a great value. They have standards and customs in the 22/24 and single cuts. I’m on the hunt for a used s2 594 thin line, which has a plain mahogany top and pattern thin neck. The ce 22/24’s can also be had for 1200 used and they have the USA pickups. The single cut standard satin or vela satin started at $1000 new and can be had for less.
