13-65 gauge, too thick?

Re: 13-65 gauge, too thick?

What tuning are you using for these monsters?

Also, why is everything in the Bassment?

Re: 13-65 gauge, too thick?

or should i just stick to 12-60?

If you're looking for some added tightness, then a 65 would be fine. If you find that the 60 gives you what you need, then there's no real reason to bump up a few gauges. IMo, a 60 on an Ibanez is fine.

Re: 13-65 gauge, too thick?

i've used nyxl 12-60 but i've heard the cleartone monster's 12-60 heavy series are good
any thoughts?

I can't say anything for Cleartone. I've only used Dunlops, D'Addarios, and Ernie Balls. Of the three, I prefer Dunlop Heavy Cores, the EB Cobalts (would like to try to M-Steels), and then the DA NYXL's.

^ +1 on the Dunlop Heavy Core. They've dethroned D'Addarios as my go to strings. They have better string definition and best of all, a better feel when bending. Hold up well in drop tuning. Good luck

well, with most guitar tuner pegs the hole is big enough to handle a .65, now if it will be enough tension for drop b is all about you and your hands, for me the most perfect tension on a string set i ever played was a 12 to 65 set, a 12 to 52 set from which i ditched the 4th string and slapped the .65 as 6th, i used that for E standard on my v (the one from my profile pic, 25.5 scale, then i learnt to live with 10 to 46 gauge since doing that set was hard and quite expensive), i can see 13 to 65 set totally working for drop b, i would be a bit more concerned about the bridge and nut than about the tuners, as you will have to widen the string slots on the saddles and nut

Re: 13-65 gauge, too thick?

I use 13-62 daddarios for Drop A# on my Les Paul, works fine, I doubt you really need that much for drop B. I'd suggest 12's with a 58 or 60 on the heaviest string

Re: 13-65 gauge, too thick?

yeah i put nyxl 12-60 on it and it's working fine but a 56 on the E string in drop b was a bit to flappy but still functional, i'll stick to 12-60 for drop b and 13-56 for drop c
