1483 vs 1484

alright guys, give some pros and cons of both. I like the tremelo on the 1484 but I don't think the 1483 has one. There's less power on the 1483, which is nicer. Who's a/b'ed them. What are some comparable qualities?

The nice thing about the 1483 that is drawing me towards it is the lower price tag. Those twin twelves are expensive!

Re: 1483 vs 1484

I like the 1483 better, a bit raunchier and less polite. The 1484 is smoother, more compressed and just a tad too refined for my tastes, plus you gotta feed it a lot more tubes. I had both for awhile, but the 1483 ended up being my preferred amp. Both are cool, but the 1483 is the better rock amp IMO.

Here are a couple tunes with it in action. Fat Jo JO is a studio take and Sucker is a live one. I am doing the leads on the live cut.

Use the hi fi link, sounds much better, unless you have dial up internet.

I'm actually a big fan of the 1492. That's when Columbus sailed the ocean blue.

What brand of amps are we talking here?

Re: 1483 vs 1484

Any one like/tested/owned/played the 1485 with 6x16 cab ???

It is the amp that Jack White is now using with his Twin Reverb's !

Re: 1483 vs 1484

I can vouch for my 1484. I love the damn thing, it is smooth without a pedal. But with a fuzz slamming it, it gets reaaaaal raunchy.

Re: 1483 vs 1484

I do like the sound of the 1483. I do like the tremelo on the 1484 though. hmmmm, a dilemna. The 1483s are a bit cheaper. A bit meaning a lot :D

Too expensive. Mainly because Jack White owns/plays it. It's a 6x10 cab. It's pretty much an louder version of the silvertone twin twelve (1484)

How many watts is the 1483 and what is modeled after?

Re: 1483 vs 1484

The 1483 is a Bassman build, but puts out 22 watts or around there. Has very small xformers, but sounds much bigger than you would think. Lovely bottom end.

Re: 1483 vs 1484

It is one of the few amps I own that needed no tweaks, outside of filter caps, 42 yrs is a bit long on the originals!! Still have the original tubes in it, save for one pre that went last week, t'was a sad day..... I plug into channel two, and it is perfect.
