Fender Super Champ x2 Head, has 2 6v6 tubes. Does anyone have any experience with this head? Is it loud enough to gig with?

I have never used a super champ x2 but I borrowed my friends super champ and took it to practice while the amp I had at the time (blackstar stage 60) was in the shop getting repaired. I disconnected the combos 10" speaker and used a 2 x 12 cabinet and it was plenty loud to be heard over the drummer and held its own in the mix. I cant imagine the x2 lost much in volume so with that being said yeah it should be enough to play live especially if its mic'd and ran through the fronts

SCX2 is loud for 15 watts and if it isn't enough volume to keep up with everyone else, there is a line out that you can route directly to the PA. I use a 12 inch speaker, different than what Fender sells with the unit. i love mine and it works really well with pedals. Channel 1 is an extremely good blackface clean tone.

I only have experience of the early Eighties 18w Fender Super Champ. I have found it loud enough under full band recording session conditions. Ultimately, this is a question of how large is the room that the amp must fill, whether it can be elevated above floor level on a stand and upon proximity to a back wall.

I had one of the original Super Champs back in the day, with the EV speaker option. It could definitely play loud, but with my band gigs it was not clean enough for the rhythm parts I played. Killer lead/crunch tones though. I'd run it wide open at band practice and piss off the other guitar player because his 100-watt Marshall sounded REALLY crappy at low volume, LOL!

I thought about using it in an A/B setup with a larger amp for cleans, like a Fender 75 head and cab I had, but never worked it out. Then I found my first Mesa amp, and it fit my needs perfectly.

Still miss that little Super Champ; don't miss the Fender 75.
