18v Fulldrive II Q.

Hey. Whats with the running the FD2 at 18 volts. How does it change it and how can i do this. Keeping in mind, I'm in Australia. I'm using a 1spot to power all my pedals right now.

Re: 18v Fulldrive II Q.

Don't quote me, or sue me, but I think you can use a Y cord from 2 9V terminals on your power supply, which sum into one lead going to the Fulldrive II.

It just opens up the dynamic range of the pedal, and gives it more depth and headroom. To be quite honest, I haven't tried it with mine. My 16V terminals are being used to power both my Line 6's, otherwise I would.

Re: 18v Fulldrive II Q.

You need 2X 9V power supplies to get 18V, you can't sum the voltage from one source. You'll need an adapter cable to put the 2 supplies in series (stacked).

PS1(9v) + ------------ 18V +

PS1(9V) - --------\
PS2(9V) + --------/

PS2(9V) - ------------- 18V -

I know that is crude, hopefully it makes sense.

Can't tell you what it does to the FD, theoretically it should give it more headroom and make it more dynamic.

Re: 18v Fulldrive II Q.

How about say, if i have 2 1spot adaptors. Both with Daisy chains. Can i do it like that. So i power a set of pedals with one adaptor, and another with the other adaptor. But i have one plug from each 1spot to power the FD2 giving it 18v. Does that work?

Re: 18v Fulldrive II Q.

That wouldn't work because you are tying both negative sides to the same ground through the guitar jacks (they are tied to the same ground as the - side of the power).

Re: 18v Fulldrive II Q.

Is there no way to do so from a 1spot plug? No cable or anything that does that? What about what gearjoneser suggested

Re: 18v Fulldrive II Q.

i dont know of anything that will work with a 1 spot. voodoo makes a cable for the pedal power which ive been thinking about getting. its $10

Re: 18v Fulldrive II Q.

You can do it with 2 One Spots if you make a special cord, but, the top One Spot (from my crude diagram) can't be used for anything else, it's neg side can't be grounded by hooking it to any other effects. You said you had 2 One Spots but both were daisy chained powering effects.

Re: 18v Fulldrive II Q.

Oh, i didnt have two. I can get two. Or can i just get another say BOSS PSA Adapter and do it? What would be the advantages of doing this first. Just in case i go to all the trouble and it's not really that great.

Re: 18v Fulldrive II Q.

That thing mentioned above that Diago 18v adapter. Would that work? Cause from what i've been reading you can't get 18v from one 9v power source. So how would that little cable work?

Re: 18v Fulldrive II Q.

Or does it lower current or something to increase voltage. I don't rmb any of my physics from high school.

*EDIT* DOH, I missed the Diago adapter, sorry, yeah, it looks like it has a voltage doubling circuit built in, cool. That should work fine.

P = I^2*R, or V^2/R, so yeah, you pull less current at higher voltages, but that really doesn't matter here. The higher voltage raises the rails (limits) of the opamps and gives it more dynamic range.

Check out godlyke website i think i saw a device for their power supply (same as 1 spot) that could increase voltage.
