18 watt Fender Champ with 4 eminence 820h, Volume on/off switch, Tone Control, Low/High input, Tweed cover, and Fender Style Old Brown Grill Cloth . Tubes: 2 6v6, 1 12ax7, and 1 5751.

What do you think of this amp design?

Re: 18W Tweed Champ

That's not a design, it's just a description.

That amp will never sound like a Champ either...the key to the Champ sound is the fact that it is true, single ended class A...2 6V6's pushed hard enough to get 18 watts ain't gonna give you that sound.

It might very well be a cool amp but it won't be a Champ.

Re: 18W Tweed Champ

Wasn't the Champ 15 watts? Is 3 more wats going to make that much difference?

It's not a matter of watts, it's a matter of amp's architecture.
Pure class A sounds different of class A/B, among many other variables.

champs were/are single ended so 3~6w and class a by necessity. single ended cant be a/b cause if your one power tube goes into cutoff you get no sound :D

even running two 6v6 in parallel single ended will only give you ~10w the only way youll get 18w from a pair of 6v6gt's is running it pretty hot in class a/b push pull which will not sound anything like a champ.

the amp you are talking about could be very cool but will sound nothing like a champ since its a totally different amp. a champ has one preamp tube that feeds one power tube.

Re: 18W Tweed Champ

Champs and little Princetons are cool. Sticking another power tube in gets you more into Deluxe territory.

Overall watts are generally a measuring stick that means little to me. But it's a necessary gauge.

Yeah, and if it is a P-P Amp.....
I think Leo beat you to it with the 5E3 a few years back.
best

Yes. What's being described by the OP is closer to being a tweed Deluxe with 4 speakers than it is a tweed Champ.

And I don't care for the tone the 5751 tube.

Re: 18W Tweed Champ

I think you all are getting a bit too excited about this the OP has a history of pulling out specs and descriptions out of the thin air the posting them. Previously he wanted a 450 watt bass amp with a half tube half solid state power section with mixable preamps and compressors. Hes just dreaming out loud on the forums he isnt really serious of even interested in the realities of it.

Of course. I just respond for the sake of sharing of my thoughts with people who sometimes find my thoughts useful.

Re: 18W Tweed Champ

The champ is a single ended amp so it would take three 6V6s for 18W. A special power transformer to handle the load and a special output transformer to get the correct impedance. Then, we’re talking about a custom chassis and a custom cabinet for the four 8” speakers. I’ll guestimate about $3000 to build.

Sounds like it would be a great (((stereo))) partner for an EVIL ROBOT !!!

Re: 18W Tweed Champ

So instead of the 18 Watt Champ; what about a Fender low watt Twin with 2 Jensen P12N speakers, Volume, Power & Standby switch, Bass & Treble Tone Control, Low/High input, Fixed bias/cathode bias Real Panel Switch, Green amp jewel, Tweed cover, and Fender Style Old Brown Grill Cloth with the Low input: 5751 and 12AX7 tubes and the High input: 2 12ax7 tubes?
Tubes: 2 6V6, 2 12AX7, and 1 5751, 1 5U4.

I have been watching the silver Princeton Reverbs. I would love to have one of those... Very cool amps...

Is there a question in there?
