I was probably overexagerating, but you must admit the volume controls on that thing are very good.

We have identical tastes. Love the VT (best hybrid) and obviously the Stiletto and blondes with big knockers.

Yes, compared to, say, a Marshall head, it does sound very good at low volumes.

I think this is because it (and most Mesas, really) have a hot preamp that slams a fairly cold power amp. This type of design is less prone to bad tone at low volume.

Re: your Q about the Vai Legacy, in my experience the amp had a good clean tone but the OD was not my cup o' tea. Dark and compressed is how I would characterize it. I had to roll the bass all the way off and the other kb=nobs way up to get the Marshall type sound I was looking for.
