I want to use them for classic rock/ blues/ maybe a little jazz.

So Nothing that's too high output please.

What will sound good in an alder body AND with a maple fretboard?

Thanks in advance for any replies :)

P-Rails! They may appear to be high output by the specs but they do everything your asking perfectly...that is, if you can get past the appearance.

The other set I might recommend is maybe an Alnico II Pro set or Pearly Gates depending on what side of the aggression spectrum you want (Alnico II Pros being very sweet and the Pearly Gates being more gritty).

thanx for the reply. I was looking at P Rails a while ago, the only things that worried me were:
A) How would just one pot size (whether it's 250 or 500k) cope with 4 different outputs from the pickup?
B) I've already got a single coil guitar and a P90 guitar, so I only want a humbucker sound. For the P Rails price could I get a humbucker that does the humbucker sound better? If that makes sense.

Thanx again!

nobody else? nobody knows thick/rich/creamy/bluesy humbuckers for an alder body telecaster?!

:(

Re: 2 humbuckers for alder body/maple neck tele, any ideas?

-100000 for p rails.

those things dont even sound like pickups, theyre almost here, almost there.

antiquities, or custom custom in the bridge and a jazz in the neck

i use a seth lover neck and a double screw a2 brobucker with great success but an antiquity set is a great place to start.

o yeah :smack: I completely forgot about seths....

They sound fine in my guitar, but then I've also been described as "not all there." However, they do indeed sound like pickups...just not sound-alike pickups. I like them for what they are: versatile with good sounds. Or maybe I just don't know good tone from the sound of my own farts, but it's still fun making the noise.

The P-rails were probably designed to work with a 500k pot, as that's what I have them with and the strat/p-90 sounds aren't particularly bright or thin as is typically the case with 500k's. There are humbuckers that do the humbucker sound better - if you only want a humbucker sound I would advise against the p-rails.

If you're looking for a good jazzy/bluesy/rock sound out of that telecaster with PAF levels of output, I'd recommend a Pearly Gates in the neck (My favorite neck humbucker to date) and while I don't have any experience with the brobucker, it is well liked in the bridge position, so I'd look at that if you don't mind the custom-shop price tag. Of the pickups that I do have experience with in the bridge, I'd say the '78 is a great pickup and worth a look. If you don't wanna pay custom shop prices, I'd look at the '59 w/ A2.

The pearly gates bridge is bright with a gold cover in my les paul, it might be too much in your telecaster, so I'd look at the A2pro and the '59 as good alternatives.

edit: Duh, completely forgot about the seths. They'll do everything you're looking for as well. Antiquities are great, but my experience is limited to the strat antiquity II's.

Thanks very much for all the responses guys!

The antiquities are out of my price range but the Seths look like a great option - jazz, blues, classic rock AND designed for brighter instruments (which a solid body tele definitely is).

The lack of wax potting worries me though. I don't play metal or Black Sabbath or anything like that but I sometimes go for Sex Pistols and The Clash. Will this be high enough gain to bring out the microphonics?

Thanks again for your help so far!

i never had a problem with my seth feeding back, i dont play with loads of gain but it sure aint clean and it sure aint quiet

Just looking at Wymore Guitars' page, there's only $14 difference between the Ant's and the Seths. (Or $28 for a pair).

Not trying to push you either way, because both are great, but price shouldn't be a huge factor between the 2 if buying new. And usually the used market shakes them out at about the same price.

Re: 2 humbuckers for alder body/maple neck tele, any ideas?

oh yeah! thanx for pointing that out, I hadn't had time to check prices but assumed the antiquitys would be a lot more cos they're custom shop.
I'm in the UK and the best prices for a set are these:

Seth Lover: £176
Antiquity: £200

Are there any tonal differences between these 2 pickups? Even subtle ones?

thanx in advance
