Ok im now in the market for a good 2X12, I have a 4X12 but thats wayy to big for what i need it for at the moment so i was thinking mabye getting a matching amrshall 2x12, but i know nothing about cabs really so what would be the best marshall 2x12 to get???

Cheers guys..

Re: 2 X 12

I like the Marshall 1936 2x12 for a matching Marshall look. They also made JCM 800 matching cabs in 2x12. The problem with most of the Marshall cabs is they come stock with the GT-75's....not my favorite speaker.

I really think for the $$ the Avitar 2x12 tolex covered with grill cloth is the best bang for the buck. You get your choice of a ton of different speakers, and the price is right. You can always stick a Marshall logo on that one if you want it to match.

Re: 2 X 12

Yeh problem is i dont live n the states so avatar isnt an option, But yes that also came to mind, I could just get a 2X12 with more preferable Speakers and stick on the marshall logo....

Any Recommendations, I have absolutly no experience with speaker types whatsoever either so this is also new water, The V30's seem to cause a rucus, so any good recommendations, I'd be looking for Good Bass And Mid Responce and lots of clarity but with a nice bite to it aswell, just a good balance of those would suit""

Cheers Guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 2 X 12

To be honest.. I've tried a whole bunch of speakers and I gotta say, my favorite is the Celestion Classic Lead 80. The sound is very tight, clean (even with highgain), highs dont cut your head and thick sounding overall.

Speakers I've tried:
Celestion 75s
Celestion 25s (Old Black Backs)
V30s
Green Backs
G12H80s
and some other speakers that I dont remember..

oh.. and I use the Classic Lead 80s in my 2x12 cab and the sound is very tight and clean and to be honest, I think its even louder then the 412 Marshall I use at the studio at rehearsal.

If you get the Classic lead 80s and dont like them, you can always re-sell them. Alot of people seem to like them.

good luck,

I don't wanna seem stupid, but what are the tonal differences between a 2x12 and a 4x12? I've heard of a lot of guys that just use a Genz Benz 2x12 and they like it a lot more than a 4x12.

Well.. so far, to my ears.. a 412 seemed to have more "air" push type of tone. They resonate more, but a 212 seemed to have "better" tighter bass and better mids. 412s seemed to have more highs then 212 but the 212 still has enough highs to cover a range.

level wise.. i have noticed any difference at all. infact, I think a 2x12 with ported holes seems to sound louder then a 412.

I am sure people can add more.

Re: 2 X 12

I think it's more the construction than number of speakers for volume and sound. The Mesa 3/4 back 1x12 sounds KILLER and loud as **** with a Mark IV, while the recto cab with the same head BLOWS.

Re: 2 X 12

2x12 sounds like it'll be just right for me! :cool3:

DSS, how you likin' that cab?

Re: 2 X 12

Love my cab, the fact that it's front loading makes the bass tight and good as all hell, and the eminence speakers are perfect for the amp. I don't think I'll be getting anything new amp wise for a LONG while. Just axes and pedals. hell, maybe even one of your pedals.

Well.. in a band, I do all covers that range from Rock, HardRock, Classic Rock. But on my own time, I write my own stuff which are sorta hardrock, heavy metal.

I recorded some clips a while back and the miced speaker was the Classic Lead 80. You can find the clips here:

Except for the Judas Priest song. It was recorded Direct using the ADA MicroCab II for Cabinet Emulation.
