2 x12" cabs

Re: 2 x12" cabs

I love my EVH cabs, they're big sounding, oversize like mesas and orange. And I like the g12h speakers better than vintage 30s.

Id stay away from Carvin, they're on the thinner side like Marshalls. For a 2x12 you need a bigger cab like avatar contemporary, orange or Evh to get a big sound
Hmm I like the Carvin.
I like that it is convertible from open back to closed
You also have the option of celestion speakers

$250 + $90 for celestion speakers

Re: 2 x12" cabs

The VOX Night Train 2x12 kicks A$$!!! Most of them come loaded with Vintage 30's but I've seen a few on eBay & other sites, for about $300 more, loaded with the Org. Celestion Alnico Blue's in them! I've only tried the one with the V 30's in it & it's a FLIPPING AWESOME cabinet!!!! I do have Alnico Blues in My AC-30 & I'd give up my first born child before I'd give up those speakers! Kids are easy to make, & fun??? I'd imagine if they were dropped into a Night Train cabinet they would sound quite alike??? It is pretty heavy but in a good, very solid way & the closed back design gives you better bass response than the open back AC-30 T.B., this makes the cabinet more appropriate for modern tones while keeping the ability to give up that classic VOX chime!!! Super well built & very versatile considering it's a dedicated cabinet. The Vintage 30's make it a good deal that sounds like a much more expensive cabinet & if you can afford the Blue's then it's going to be that much better!!!

Re: 2 x12" cabs

I just got my Marshall 2x12 delivered. I am loving the tone. I don't know what people are talking about when they say these are thin or lack bass. This thing has a lot of bottom. I do have the "deep" switch on the amp engaged so that might be doing it. Never the less for $300 brand new I am more than happy.

My cousin had a Laney GH50L with a matching Laney cab, and the exact same cab as you have.

The Laney cab (to my ears) sounded a wee bit 'better' (fuller, warmer and less high end crackel).
Again, to my ears, my Orange 2X12 cab sound ten times better than either . . . BUT . . , the King Of The Hill is (by far) my Genz Benz g-Flex 2X12.

THIS THING IS A MONSTER.

This cab CAN out perform some of the well known 4X12 units.
LOW END like i have never heard, coming from any 2X12 cab . . . and i had a few in the last 20 years.

Re: 2 x12" cabs

For me a 2x12 (or a large 1x12 cab) serves the purpose of gigging in smaller venues. I don't necessary want one that sounds as big or as loud as a 4x12. I want one that will allow me to turn the amp past 2 1/2 without getting in a war with the sound guy or blowing away the pretty girls over at the first table. Also I don't want a 2x12 that requires a roady (which will be myself) and an large SUV to transport to and from the gig. I don't want a big heavy Fender Twin plus a head.

This has the 75s? The big bottom end of the 75s works well in a 2x12.

Re: 2 x12" cabs

I'm a 4x12 guy. But I've had a lot of nice 2X12s and my favorites were the pair of Bogner OS2x12s. They sounded almost as big as my 4x12 slants.

Now... I've grown quite enamored with the latest Randall 2x12s (I think they're designed to go with the Diavlo RD45 head). They sound dang big and thumpy for rock. I may pick one up shortly.

Re: 2 x12" cabs

Talking about (((BIG))) sound.

I am pretty sure this cab with an Orange OR80 head will shake the stage :headbang:

Re: 2 x12" cabs

Going slightly OT :

Here is a 4X12 size cab would love to try : Randall RS125 XL

Again, plug an Orange OR80 into it . . . and see the magic happen !

Re: 2 x12" cabs

marshall 1936V. it's a closed back 2x12 with the fabulous celestion vintage speakers. i had a regular 1936 with the crappy celestion G12T75 speakers and it sounded huge for a 2x12.

Re: 2 x12" cabs

Money no issue?

Bogner.

Money an issue?

Marshall 2061, mesa, avatar, orange, evh.

good advice, remember the smaller the 2x12 enclosure the tighter and more focused the sound. The larger the cabinet the bigger and more spacious the sound as a general rule of thumb

Re: 2 x12" cabs

Is the Egnater Tourmaster 2x12 any good?
It has custom Celestion voiced speakers and it's convertible.
I'd love a EVH cab but good luck finding one here.

Re: 2 x12" cabs

Zilla and Roadkill can make you pretty much any 2 x 12 (or other) that you want for a very fair price. I have a Cornford 2 x 12 that sounds great, huge with presence. However, they are made of pine and I wouldn't say they are as robust as a ply cab but if you are kind with your gear they're worth a look.

Re: 2 x12" cabs

i tried to snag a used Cornford here in central Texas - how it got here i do not know. Cornford are the some very best cabinets ever made, like Bogner cabinets- the best... but i was too late.
The genz Bens Lynch cabinet sound huge form sure. I have one, and should try and get anohter. . I doubt they are made as well as the best, but they sure sound big.

Re: 2 x12" cabs

The story of Genz-Benz is a little difficult to unravel, but it appears that the brand is now owned by Kaman Music Corp, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fender Musical Instruments Corporation. According to FMIC no Genz-Benz amplifiers have been produced since late 2012. I don't know about cabinets. The CS rep specifically said "amplifiers" as I was inquiring about their line of acoustic guitar amps.

It has the Seventy 80s, it sounds great especially for the money. I got it for $300 brand new on MF. They took off $50 because the box was damaged. There wasn't a scratch on the amp. I will trade cardboard boxes for $50 bills all day long.
