Interesting kind of fluted design behind the bridge.

$1.6kish on Reverb. Cool and unique but no thanks.

I always thought those were pretty cool. They have grooves in the sides too, and a logo that looks like a tattoo. I believe there was an SG Menace too.
What they really should've made is an Explorer Menace. That would've been badass.

I dig clear bobbins; it goes back to seeing an uncovered Gibson P90 many years ago.
Nice to see the coil windings - kinda steampunk.

I generally like when a traditional company like Gibson comes out with new designs. I loved the Les Paul Lite, the Smartwoods, and the Dark Fire. Sometimes, they get really lazy and come out with pretty terrible designs- this one, the Holy V/Explorer and the Dusk Tiger.

No reverse V, Mr. Mincer ? ;)

I love it, personally. But I'm all about edgy/metal-looking modded Les Pauls.

When I first started nerding out about gear and daydreaming about playing guitars, one of my dream guitars was the Les Paul Gothic. Many of the bands back then were putting EMG's in it. I thought it looked badass.

For a while, I had my Les Paul with the boomer-burst finished blacked out with active pickups. I thought it looked cool. Like if I'd grabbed a guitar I inherited from my gramps and modded it to play the music that I like, hahaha.

Me and tobacco bursts never really got along...precisely because it's Boomer Burst.
I like Tobacco Burst. Well, not really. But I can tolerate Tobacco Burst. Or the bursts that fade from black or from a very dark shade of brown. You kinda have to learn to tolerate some sort of Boomer Burst finish if you like Les Pauls. 99% of the high-end Les Pauls are some sort of burst.

It's Cherry Burst that I can't stand. Mainly, clownburst from the 70's or the really cheap-looking Cherry Burst they use in most Epis. My second guitar was an Epi Les Paul Special II that my mom got me because she saw I kept looking at Les Pauls online all day. We got that finish because that was the only finish they had at the store, and ordering the black or solid red variation would've meant I'd have to wait a week or two for it to arrive. I sooooo regreted not waiting the extra week, LOL.

I would love to get one of those really high-end expensive Les Pauls and mod it with some modern parts and high output pickups just so that boomers loose their mind over it, hahaha.

I think that cherry burst that everyone wants and pays so much for has been reduced to a veneer or applique with cheaper guitars now.

If a Chibson can copy the look, if not the feel of a genuine Gibson, for a few hundred dollars, then I'm not paying that much just for looks. Cherry burst is Gibson's version of silver SUVs: overly popular, overly expensive, overly done.

But you know when people born between 1946-64 see that guitar they seem to swell with a certain pride in their tone nuggets:

Hahahaha, I don't like Chibsons, personally. They look REALLY fake and easty to spot if you're used to seeing actual Les Pauls.

I'm torn with Epi. Not really a fan. I bought two last year. I kept one which I thought I really liked, but even if the Gibson looks really plain and slightly rustic and rough-around-the edges, it sounds much better. Also, Epis are kind of off-looking if you're used to looking at "real" Les Pauls all day, hahaha. The dimensions, silhouette, and other stuff are very slightly off to the point where it looks like someone just messed the design just a tad. Very "artificual product differentiation" by my reasoning.

That's partly why I don't like Norlins either. The shapes are different from what I'm used to seeing which is either 90's and later stuff or 60's and before stuff. One of the first "nice" guitars I played was a friend's Les Paul Classic with the really thin neck (thinner than the 60's profile) and the super hot Ceramic pickups. That was such a Metal beast in disguise.

If I wanted a budget Les Paul, I'd much rather look at LTD or Schecter rather than Epiphone. But LTD's and Schecters are priced way high these days to the point I'd rather spend 100-200 dollars more and just buy a Les Paul Studio.

I don't know how they ever greenlit the reverse V. Maybe the biggest of example of them thinking 'they will buy anything we put out there'.

I saw one of those for sale about a week ago for some ridiculous price of $2500 or something idiotic like that.
