2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

Strat bridge saddles and a tummy cut. Why not add a trem and a middle pickup while you're at it?

It's not for me, but as others have said there are plenty of more traditional Teles in the Fender catalog.

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

I guess I'm of the mindset that it's a tool at the end of the day, not a piece of artwork, or some sacred cow that's being slaughtered. Fender don't make a habit of trying to sell things that no one wants, so I am assuming that they have the market research to back up their decision to go this route - that much is just sound business sense. As others have said, there are plenty of options that stick rigidly to the 1950's ideal, so go try a bunch and see what works best for you. As for those who say it looks ugly or what ever it was, stop look at the back of your guitar and just play the f'ing thing.

I don't see anyone whining about the lack of contours on a Les Paul.

As much as I loved my LP I always found myself thinking as far as 'comfortable' goes a tummy/forearm cut body was better. That gives me an idea, a flat top LP with tummy/forearm/neck joint cut from Warmoth, definately unique.

Step in the right direction.

Imagine you're building a custom guitar, just for you, that NOONE ELSE WILL OR CAN EVER SEE. does it have a tummy cut?

HELL no! Never saw the point of tummy cuts, all the do is make the body lean in in that weird angle.

So it's an INVISIBLE guitar? That's one heck of a custom option ...

It's called a PRS SE Singlecut (or Soapbar)

I have one and it's wonderful.

My frankencaster has a tummy and arm cut (warmoth body), this guitar is insanely comfortable to play, no way I'm going back to coach after flying first class. For you guys who don't like tummy cuts, stop drinking light beer :beerchug:

Strat bridge saddles? I have to double check that! I hate strat saddles! Too sharp and cut my hand up!

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

I would rather have a forearm cut than a tummy cut.

Honestly don't think the Tele needs either cut, but I wouldn't reject one outright just because it had one.

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

I haven't seen what we're discussing here, but if it's like a full blown strat cut, yeah, doesn't need it. If it's just a subtle rounding of the top edge I say yeah. I did both a belly cut and forearm round on my tele, it needed it.

LP TOM bridges are raised off the top and the body is at an angle to the neck which makes it sit more natural to play, that's why you don't need cuts on one for it to be comfortable.

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

If you want something that's comfortable, buy a PRS.

If you want a badass plank of wood nailed to another plank of wood with some wire and magnets and strings that's pure, unadulterated rock and roll awesomeness, buy a Tele.

The belly cut is really awful. It could be ok if it were on a different mode, like the Deluxe, but on the flagship line? Travesty.

Re: 2012 American Standard Tele Tummy Cut

i'm thinking an American Special model is looking more and more like my kind of tele...
