250k vs 500k .... and graphtec

Looking for Real Life
assuming we're talking humbuckers, if i had 2 identical guitars, one with 500k pots & the other 250k, well, what would be the difference?

and also, how do graph tec nuts & saddles change the tone, and how noticable is it?

250 pots are going to roll off some more of the highs, swapping 500k for 250k in a bucker loaded guitar is a good fix (sometimes) if the guitar is too bright.

GraphTec DOES change the tone...in fact GearJonser (as well as a few others) uses GraphTec saddles on the plain strings of his strat to tame the brightness...as far as how noticable it is...that depends on how good your ears are.

so more bass on both?
no with the 250k! Just less highs!
The 250k pot will reduce the output around the resonant peak. and lower the resonant peaks frequency but this effect is small!

what about the graphtec stuff?

some guy told me it gives you more bass, mids, and sustain, but i dunno if i believe him or not

Re: 250k vs 500k .... and graphtec

Not more mids and bass, just less highs, which, maybe to his ears, translates to more bass. As far as more sustain, I havcen't experienced it. Maybe he just got a better setup when he changed his saddles?
