260 Watt Marshall Cab - Odd?

Heya All,
Last year I bought a classic Marshall half stack. The head is a 1986 JCM 800 model 2205, the cab is a 1979 4x12. I fell into the deal and got the whole schmeel for $750.

Anyhow, the cab is a 1960B and is 260 watts. This is the first time I've heard of such a Marshall cab. I love the sound and have since picked up another one off of ebay, this one a slant.

My question is, how common are these? These 2 are the only one's I can recall ever seeing.

Honestly, I'm not sure which speakers are in this box. I'll know tomorrow as I'm having the grillcloth replaced -the first one I got had a checkerboard grille, the second one a black - I prefer the checkerboard and bought some material to redo the second one. Actually, I also have 3 older Line 6 cabs which have a lighter grill cloth, so I want everything to at least sorta match. Yeah, I'm old school in that I love to have a bunch of 412's onstage with me. Haven't used the whole rig yet, but the time's coming.....

LOL - naa, the odd thing is that, the more amplifiers I use, the quiter my stage volume. Weird?

I'm in a band wherem before, when I was using a 1/2 stack, if I could hear anything I played, I was too loud. Now, using a stack (no space for more), I'm being told to turn up. That's something ANY guitarist should appreciate!

Yeah i actually like two wide apart sound sources more than one strong beam. Nice dense vibe... Cool, sorry can't answer your question though.

Yeah i get a bit injured when told to roll back the vol...its like you want to tell em to just get louder themselves!

My 82 JCM 800 50w had the 65 watt celestions as well in the cab. I don't know what years they produced them, but the 260 watt cab was a production cabinet. Had a nice sound, but I wish I still had the head to hear what it would sound like through my current cabs.

I bought mine in 84 or 85. Head and cab for......$500! I also bought an Antigua (that green sunburst) strat for $400 from the same guy. He had a silverburst Les Paul for $500 as well. Hurt his back in a car wreck and couldn't play anymore. Sadly, I sold this equipment in the late 80s, early 90s. Along with my 73 50 watt Marshall, 65 Fender Deluxe, 67 Fender twin......:smack:

Heya '73,
Ooo, hearing about not having gear like that anymore is painful! LOL!
As you noted with yours, mine too is a production cab with the 65 watt speakers in it. I haven't seen a lot of these. My one cab is a 1979 and the other is a 1982, so these were available at least in that time span.....

I would guess these were produced maybe until the 800 want channel switching? Just a hunch, but like Devastone posted, they were classic enough to be reproduced.
