2V/2T Dependent or Independent Controls?

This is something that I never realized prior to buying Rachel (my other electrics are 1V/1T and 1V/2T)... that the volume, when the pickup selector is in the center position, can basically be controlled by either of the volume controls but not blended. I had just never really paid attention and assumed they worked independently where you CAN blend them. (In fact, at first I thought there was something haywire with my wiring!)

Not long after figuring out that it was acting like it was supposed to, I found out that you can wire it so they blend instead. I keep toying with the idea of trying it out, but would like to get some feedback from both sides of the issue.

  • So do you prefer dependent controls (standard LP) or independent controls (blendable)?
  • Why?
  • If you've tried both, what made you choose the option you prefer?

Be sure to vote in the poll and, more importantly, COMMENT your reasoning!

Thanks boys and girls!

Re: 2V/2T User Poll

All mine seem to be independent - you can blend the pickups just fine; except down below 2 or 1 either of the controls will turn the guitar off.

Re: 2V/2T User Poll

I think you are just talking about 50's wiring, right? In one config, either volume at 0 grounds the output and silences the middle selection, the other config just grounds the input so the other volume is still active.

Re: 2V/2T User Poll

I think almost all of mine came with dependent wiring, but I've rewired them to independent. I like being about to blend the PU's together, gives me more tone options.

Re: 2V/2T User Poll

Ive got some wired one way... some wired another... Neither is a deal breaker for me.

Re: 2V/2T User Poll

Geez, that's way too basic (i.e. primitive) for me. I'd feel handcuffed with that guitar.

Ha! I have several pedals that make this thing really rock out through my HRD...I don't feel handicapped at all with a Dimebucker and Suhr Riot ;)
